2021 was the year filmmakers chose Kid Cudi as the topic of their cinematic projects. On December 24th on Netflix, the American rapper appeared in Adam Mckay‘s anticipated feature Don’t Look Up. A month earlier, on November 5th, he was the focus of a documentary released on Amazon Prime Video. Directed by Robert Alexander, A Man Named Scott traces back the career of the Cleveland, Ohio-born artist, particularly since the release of Man on the Moon: The End of the Day (2009), his acclaimed debut album. His musical project marked a whole generation, and propelled the rapper to the status of idol and leading figure in American rap.
The documentary features a wealth of archival footage showing the life of Scott Ramon Seguro Mescudi, aka Kid Cudi, along with interviews of close friends, experts, and exclusive footage shot for the occasion. A Man Named Scott looks back on a decade of creative choices, personal battles with depression that even led him to contemplate suicide, and drug addiction, which he has now overcome. The cast also includes rappers Kanye West and Lil Yachty, singers Pharrell Williams, Willow Smith and Jaden Smith, and actor Timothée Chalamet.
