Dune: Part Two, a monumental box office success
The beginning of 2024 was undeniably marked by the release of Dune: Part Two, which benefited from a massive international promotional campaign. The second instalment in the Dune saga, inspired by the work of novelist Frank Herbert, was a major commercial success, selling more than 4 million tickets in France alone and grossing over 700 million dollars worldwide.
Led by Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Léa Seydoux, the enigmatic Austin Butler, Rebecca Ferguson, and Javier Bardem, the film unfolds as a sci-fi epic steeped in Shakespearean revenge story.
Now available on DVD and VOD, the film leaves fans wondering… When will Dune: Part Three hit theaters? According to the latest updates, it may arrive sooner than we expected. A few months ago, Denis Villeneuve told the American media Deadline that he would “go back behind the camera faster than (he) think” to shoot the final film adaptation of Frank Herbert’s epic. “I’m in the writing zone right now,” the filmmaker said. Ultimately, Dune: Part Three will not be titled Dune Messiah like Frank Herbert’s original novel. According to several sources, filming wrapped in Hungary in November 2025. While the film will include sequences shot with IMAX cameras, it was not entirely made using this technology, contrary to what recent reports had suggested.

Dune: Part Three will come out in 2026
According to the production company Warner Bros., Denis Villeneuve’s new film is expected to hit cinemas on December 18th, 2026. In France, it is set for release on December 16th.
The feature film may also be presented at both the Cannes Film Festival and the Venice Film Festival this year. Alongside this project, the Canadian director is reportedly working on a film adaptation of the thriller Nuclear War: A Scenario (2024) by American writer and journalist Annie Jacobsen, as well as directing the next James Bond film…
In the meantime, Dune fans can look forward to revisiting Frank Herbert’s dystopian universe in the series Dune: Prophecy, released in 2024 on Max, which centers on the Bene Gesserit clan and serves as a prequel to Denis Villeneuve’s films.
Robert Pattinson and Jason Momoa in the cast
In an interview with Time Magazine last January, Denis Villeneuve stated last January that Dune: Part Three would be his final film in the saga’s universe. As for the cast, Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Jason Momoa and Anya Taylor-Joy are all set to return.
On April 8th, the media Deadline revealed that another major actor could join the cast of Dune: Part Three. Denis Villeneuve is reportedly in talks with Robert Pattinson, and according to several sources, he is indeed set to join the film’s prestigious cast.
But for which role? According to some journalists at The Hollywood Reporter, the Mickey 17 actor could take on the role of the film’s main villain, Scytale. In an interview with the online media IndieWire, the Twilight star explained that he had an extremely intense experience on the set of Dune 3 due to the scorching heat…
On March 17th, 2026, just a few hours after the reveal of the character posters for Dune: Part Three, Warner Bros. unveiled the very first trailer. A first glimpse that, judging by the images, suggests a darker, more radical finale than the two previous installments…

Will Timothée Chalamet become a father in the last installment of the saga?
Inspired by Frank Herbert’s 1969 novel Dune Messiah, the third capter of the saga is expected to feature Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides once more. Now emperor, he will face his enemies, both from inside and outside the walls of his palace.
Two new important members of the Atreides family could be added to the cast. A major development, as Timothée Chalamet’s character may become a father in the final installment of the saga. According to Deadline, Nakoa-Wolf Momoa, Jason Momoa’s son, and actress Ida Brooke, seen in the series Silo and The Primrose Railway Children, are set to play the children of Paul Atreides and Chani (Zendaya).
Finally, according to the latest reports, renowned composer Hans Zimmer, who made the scores for the first two chapters, could also create the soundtrack of the highly-anticipated Dune: Part Three…
