Why Angèle’s evolving style fascinates us
Alongside her meteoric rise on the French-speaking music scene, Belgian singer Angèle, 29, continues to turn heads with increasingly sharp and sophisticated fashion choices. Are we witnessing the emergence of a new fashion icon? A look back at some of the standout outfits of the artist—and Chanel ambassador—from her early days to her first Met Gala.
Angèle, french pop star and fashion icon
Launched into stardom with her debut album Brol in 2018—selling over a million copies—Angèle quickly made her mark among the top names in Francophone pop. Born into a family of artists and mentored early on by the likes of Damso and Ibeyi—whose opening acts she performed—Angèle dreamed not only of music, but of fashion too. At just 12 years old, she bought her first sewing machine, eager to create her own clothes.
When she burst onto the music scene, Angèle brought with her a wardrobe full of vibrant hues, in sync with the whimsical aesthetic of her Brol music videos. Think: a baby blue cloud-print cardigan in La Loi de Murphy (2017), a long-sleeved crimson dress in Jalousie (2018), and a mustard yellow jumpsuit in La Thune (2018). Her outfits, much like the persona she shares on Instagram, are colorful, quirky, and full of life.
Angèle, a muse for Chanel
In 2019, Angèle embarked on her first solo tour, traveling across France, the United States, Canada, and her native Belgium. At the time, her look leaned streetwear—think laid-back tank tops, brightly colored tracksuits, and pastel puffer jackets.
Her connection with Chanel began when she attended the brand’s Spring-Summer 2020 show in September 2019, under the creative direction of Virginie Viard. That December, she made a splash at the Métiers d’Art 2019–2020 show in a black and beige tweed jacket.
She kept the momentum going at the Fall-Winter 2020–2021 Chanel show, sporting a cropped jacket and flowing navy pants, offset by bold vermillion lipstick. For several years now, she has entrusted her beauty looks to makeup artist Ruby Mazuel.
Among her most iconic collaborations with Chanel were the stage outfits for her Nonante-Cinq Tour in 2022 and 2023. Virginie Viard reimagined signature Chanel silhouettes—sparkling jackets, sleeveless tops, colorful mini-skirts and shorts—bringing the house’s codes to the concert stage.
Angèle’s Style Shift: From coquette Charm to femme fatale
It was in Chanel that Angèle made her Met Gala debut in 2023, stunning in a black cut-out dress inspired by a 1995 Karl Lagerfeld design. That appearance marked a shift in her fashion identity.
She gradually moved away from girlish bows, rhinestone belts, and glittery touches, opting instead for a more rock-tinged, graphic aesthetic.
At the Courrèges Fall-Winter 2024–2025 show, she unveiled a bold new look: a short blond bob with bangs, paired with a black leather jumpsuit adorned with straps.
Spotlight on Courrèges and Coperni
Just days later, she turned heads again at the Coperni show, dressed in a daring all-black ensemble—a plunging bodysuit worn without pants, layered under a long coat and sheer tights.
The techno-chic label, created by Arnaud Vaillant and Sébastien Meyer, also dressed Angèle for her performance at the closing ceremony of the 2024 Summer Olympics. Her rendition of Nightcall by producer Kavinsky was one of the night’s highlights.
Over the years, Angèle has steadily embraced the role of fashion-forward pop star with increasing flair. And we can’t wait to see what she has in store next…
