What to expect from Wednesday season 3 with Eva Green and Winona Ryder?
While season 2 of Wednesday was one of Netflix’s biggest hits last fall, Tim Burton is already preparing the next chapter in the adventures of the gothic protagonist portrayed by Jenna Ortega. According to Deadline, the shooting of season 3 should start in 2026, while the release is scheduled for 2027. Eva Green joins the cast of Wednesday
Viewers got a brief glimpse at her back at the end of season 2. The character of Aunt Ophelia, or Ophelia Frump, the sister of Morticia Addams (Catherine Zeta-Jones), will finally make a proper entrance in the upcoming season. Some fans believed that Lady Gaga should have played the role… According to Deadline, Netflix and Tim Burton chose Eva Green to bring the character to life in season 3. A choice that seemed quite obvious. The 45-year-old French actress has always been infusing her roles with her dark, magnetic charisma.
One can remember her intense performances in Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children (2016), or in the splendid series Penny Dreadful (2014–2016). Her participation also marks a reunion with Tim Burton. The creative duo have already worked together in the past, in Dumbo (2019) and the horror comedy Dark Shadows (2012).
A reunion between Winona Ryder and Jenna Ortega
Another piece of good news? One of Tim Burton’s greatest muses, Winona Ryder, is also joining the cast of the new season. She previously played the young goth girl Lydia Deetz in Beetlejuice (1988), and again in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (2024). The American actress already shared the screen with Jenna Ortega in that project. She previously shone in Tim Burton’s cult poetic film Edward Scissorhands. “I am so happy that Winona has joined us. She fits right into this world. She’s a dear friend. I always feel lucky to work with her,” the director declared in a press release.
What can the audience expect from season 3?
While the plot of season 3 remains under wraps for now, the arrival of Aunt Ophelia suggests that the series will continue delving into supernatural elements. This unsettling character, with her blonde hair and psychic abilities, was committed to the Willow Hill psychiatric hospital by her own mother, Hester Frump (Joanna Lumley), after her powers spiraled out of control. Yet, she escaped before vanishing into thin air.
Other details about the future of Wednesday confirm that the shooting will begin in early 2026, with a release expected in 2027. With Jenna Ortega reprising her role and Eva Green joining the cast, the new episodes are already shaping up to be one of Netflix’s major events for 2027.
