Which J.J. Abrams film will bring together Glen Powell and Jenna Ortega?
The king of the American blockbuster is back this year. American director, producer and screenwriter J. J. Abrams is preparing a new fantasy feature, The Great Beyond, starring Jenna Ortega and Glen Powell.

American director J.J. Abrams (Felicity, Alias, Lost, Fringe) has managed to keep the mystery surrounding his upcoming film intact. A rare feat in Hollywood. Long known as Ghostwriter, his next blockbuster, The Great Beyond, will come out in theatres on November 11th, 2026. It will mark the famous filmmaker’s return to the big screen, more than six years after Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker (2019).
The studio is still keeping a low profile for now. However, several clues point in the same direction. Audiences can expect an adventure tinged with 1980s nostalgia, in keeping with J.J. Abrams’s fondness for retro pop culture. A taste he had already explored years ago in Super 8 (2011), produced by Steven Spielberg.

The story should focus on a newly-wed couple facing a supernatural entity. The protagonist is said to be a successful writer who discovers that the universe of his fantasy novels actually exists, thus blurring the line between fiction and reality. Nick Castle’s The Last Starfighter (1984), a sci-fi tale in which a video game becomes the portal to a cosmic war, is apparently the main inspiration of The Great Beyond.
The stellar cast of this new film includes Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick, Twisters), Jenna Ortega, star of the show Wednesday and the Scream franchise, Emma Mackey (Sex Education), as well as Quentin Tarantino’s longtime favorite actor, Samuel L. Jackson.
