Should we believe in Gossip Girl star Leighton Meester’s comeback?
At 39, the star of the cult show Gossip Girl seems ready to make her comeback. Leighton Meester’s appearances in the Netflix romantic comedy The Bodyguard and in the series Nobody Wants This and I Love LA hint at an artistic rebirth.
The comeback of actress Leighton Meester
American actress and singer Leighton Meester, 39, a sophisticated brunette with a magnetic gaze, made her first strong impression as the embodiment of the privileged and troubled teenager in the cult teen series Gossip Girl in 2007. At the time, she was becoming a preppy style icon in the process. She played the role of the very chic, ambitious, and mean girl Blair Waldorf, next to Blake Lively.
But in 2014, after a difficult childhood – her mother was serving a prison sentence for her involvement in a marijuana ring when she was born – Leighton Meester shed the socialite image. She ventured into more intimate territory with Heartstrings. Alongside producer Jeff Trott, she crafted a pop-rock album with folk overtones. That project revealed a different side of the woman – a singer-songwriter capable of creating intimate atmospheres with a restrained, almost whispered voice, at odds with the media frenzy that once made her a star.
Appearances in I Love LA and Nobody Wants This
In recent years, the actress was spotted in several films (Love Next Door, Crazy Dad, The Judge, The Roommate) and TV shows (How I Met Your Father, The Buccaneers). But she seems to be truly staging a comeback in the past few months. Indeed, Leighton Meester may be pursuing a more ambitious artistic rebirth now.
In 2025, the actress starred in the first season of I Love LA, a zany comedy series directed by Rachel Sennott, about a group of friends trying to make it in Los Angeles. At the same time, the Texan actress also starred in the excellent series Nobody Wants This, season 2. The romcom created by Erin Foster focuses on the unlikely, yet hilarious relationship between a podcaster and a newly divorced rabbi. The cast includes Kristen Bell and Adam Brody, who is Leighton Meester’s real-life partner. First released in 2024 and already renewed for a third season, the series is one of Netflix’s comedy hits thanks to its caustic tone and offbeat couple dynamic.
A romantic comedy starring Andie MacDowell
And that’s not all… Leighton Meester will star in the Netflix adaptation of the 2022 bestseller The Bodyguard by Katherine Center. A Christmas romcom in which she plays Hannah Brooks, an elite bodyguard assigned to protect Jack Stapleton, a Hollywood star portrayed by Jared Padalecki (Supernatural, Walker). To maintain appearances in front of his family, the two characters must pretend to be a couple, an arrangement that soon blurs the line between professional duty and feelings. The project is even more exciting as actress Andie MacDowell is also part of the cast.
Finally, the Gossip Girl star is also set to star alongside Ashley Park (Emily in Paris) in the comedy Basic. The synoposis of this film, expected in 2026? “After her breakup with Nick, Gloria dives into his romantic past and uncover the root of all their problems: Kaylinn.”
