The Waldorf Astoria – Trianon Palace, a gem in the heart of Versailles

Who has never dreamed of spending a night beneath the gilded splendour of the Château de Versailles? Step into the lobby of the Waldorf Astoria Versailles – Trianon Palace and your dream will become (almost) true. Adjoining the entrance to the Trianon estate – formerly Marie-Antoinette’s leisure place – the hotel seems almost like an extension of the former royal residence commissioned by Louis XIV at the end of the 17th century.

From its magnificent dressed-stone façade to its lush gardens and sweeping views over the grounds and rooftops of Versailles, the property stands out from the many other luxurious hotel complexes on the outskirts of Paris.

The impressive building still offers service on a human scale. Here, the staff take personal care of every guest. There are plenty amenities, such as the prestigious Guerlain spa, a glass-roofed indoor pool, two restaurants and a terrace… Guests can wander wherever they please and enjoy a place where peace and pleasure are the main priority.

A royal weekend just outside Paris

For those wishing to leave Paris without going too far – for work or personal reasons – the Waldorf Astoria is the perfect spot. A short taxi ride or a trip on the RER and you’ll find yourself right at the hotel’s doorstep. And, let’s be honest, the gates of the Château de Versailles never fails to leave us speechless.

For a weekend getaway, or more for the lucky ones, the place offers a little bubble of luxury and elegance. After finding your luggage already waiting in your room thanks to the staff, you will step into a vast suite with a contemporary décor and two balconies. The spacious bathroom evokes a princely residence. The wide bed will allow you to stretch out for a good night sleep without disturbing your partner.

A glass or two of champagne and a few delicious macarons later, you will head to one of the two restaurants of the hotel. For us, it will be La Véranda, a brasserie bathed in the light of the sunset thanks to its large picture windows. There, you can enjoy authentic French cuisine prepared in a small glass outbuilding nearby, which you can even see from your table.

We obviously loved the poached egg à la Meurette as a starter. But we highly recommend the incredibly tender Salers beef fillet served with a small helping of truffled mashed potatoes. The icing on the cake? Being able to watch the fireworks that bring the Château de Versailles’ Night Fountains Show to a close, comfortably seated at your table.

    The hotel’s splendid Guerlain spa

There’s nothing like spending the night in one of the hotel’s giant beds after a delicious dinner to wake up feeling truly rested and refreshed. Away from the hustle and bustle of Parisian life, you will find yourself opening the velvet curtains in your bathrobe. From your room, you will be able to gaze at the peaceful Trianon estate. A cliché? Perhaps. But that is exactly the spirit of the Waldorf Astoria.

It’s now time for breakfast, delivered by the 24/7 room service of the hotel. A salmon eggs Benedict, a glass of mango nectar, a latte macchiato, and we’re ready to head to the hotel’s magnificent Guerlain spa, still in our bathrobe. Stretched out on a heated massage table, you could almost drift back into your beauty sleep. But missing a second of the Aura Nobile treatment is out of the question.

This hour-and-a-half ritual features products from Guerlain’s Impériale Gold Nobile line – a range of creams crafted from the Gold Nobile orchid, native to the Himalayas. It feels like a luscious honey mask on the skin. Combining the art of acupressure with gua sha facial sculpting, the treatment drains and detoxifies your face. It also includes a light upper-body massage.

The result is astonishing. Your face is glowing, as if it had recovered from every late night you’ve ever had. Afterwards, we made our way to the pool, sheltered beneath an incredible glass roof. After a few leisurely laps and some time spent in the sun, it’s time to return to our suite, close our suitcases and hand back the keys to our little cocoon unfortunately… But we will be back for sure!
