More horror and action in season 2 of Wednesday
Good news for fans of The Addams Family universe (1991): Netflix has completed filming season 2 of its Wednesday series, shot in Ireland. After months of anticipation, this new chapter is finally offering a first glimpse.
In a sneak peek released last January, we see Wednesday, played by Jenna Ortega, face off once again with Tyler Galpin, her former friend turned enemy by the end of season 1. Now weakened and imprisoned at Willow Hill, a specialized facility, Tyler comes face-to-face with the girl who once defeated him.
Jenna Ortega is back
True to its teaser-heavy strategy, Netflix released the official trailer for the new season on Wednesday, April 23, 2025. Blending horror and comedy, the preview is packed with playful jump scares, sudden, shocking images meant to startle viewers.
According to Jenna Ortega, the tone of the new episodes will be significantly darker. Speaking to Variety, she said: “We’ve decided to lean more into the horror side of the show. But it still keeps a lighthearted feel, after all, with vampires, werewolves, and superpowers, it’s not a story that takes itself too seriously.”
She added: “We’re dropping any romance subplot for Wednesday, which I think is a really good thing.” In another interview, the actress also promised more action, horror, and ambition.
The first season earned Jenna Ortega a nomination for Best Actress at the 2023 Emmy Awards. Will this new season finally bring her the coveted statuette?

Lady Gaga joins the cast of Wednesday
On the casting side, Jenna Ortega will be joined by the brilliant Steve Buscemi, a favorite of the Coen brothers. Another major surprise: pop star Lady Gaga, whose sped-up version of Bloody Mary went viral on TikTok in dance videos mimicking Wednesday’s choreography, will make an appearance this season. In fact, the trailer hints at her arrival, and Wednesday even utters the word “Mayhem,” the title of Lady Gaga’s latest album…
We’ll also meet Joanna Lumley (Absolutely Fabulous) as Grandmama, along with new characters portrayed by Evie Templeton, Billie Piper (Penny Dreadful), Owen Painter, Noah Taylor, Thandiwe Newton (Westworld), Frances O’Connor, Haley Joel Osment (The Sixth Sense, Blink Twice), Heather Matarazzo (The Princess Diaries), and Joonas Suotamo (Star Wars). Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future), who famously played Uncle Fester in the film franchise, will also make an appearance.
However, actor Percy Hynes White, who played Xavier Thorpe, will not return. He has been dropped from season 2 following accusations of sexual assault that surfaced on social media.
Tim Burton returns as director
On September 20th, 2024, Netflix shared a sneak peek behind the scenes of Wednesday Season 2, featuring interview snippets and exclusive set images. Catherine Zeta-Jones promised “an even more extraordinary and terrifying season” than the first, once again with Tim Burton at the helm. The celebrated director will return to direct the opening episode of the second season, titled Here We Woe Again.
