Elle, a series inspired by the cult film Legally Blonde

It is hard to resist the charm of this early-2000s cult classic, which is far less superficial than it may seem at first glance… In early April 2024, the American media Variety revealed that Legally Blonde (2001), directed by Robert Luketic, would be adapted into a TV show.

Fans of Elle Woods, the Los Angeles student dreaming of becoming a lawyer portrayed by Reese Witherspoon, will soon be able to reconnect with their favorite protagonist on July 1st, 2026. The new series, Elle, is said to be a prequel to the original movie.

On Instagram, actress Reese Witherspoon also shared some new details about the Amazon Prime Video series: “Before she became the famous Gemini vegetarian to graduate from Harvard Law, she was just a regular ’90s high school girl. And all of you are going to get to know her next year on Prime Video.

    Lexi Minetree in the cast

Indeed, this highly-awaited show will follow the adventures of the iconic character Elle Woods during her teenage years. The story will take place a few years before the events occurring in the original film. The series will explore the protagonist’s high school days. Through her production company Hello Sunshine, Reese Witherspoon will co-produce the Amazon Prime Video series.

Regarding the cast, American actress Lexi Minetree (Law & Order: Special Victims Unit) was chosen to portray the young Elle Woods. A brilliant choice since the resemblance between the two actresses is uncanny. The question remains whether the excellent Reese Witherspoon will appear as a guest star in the show…

While Legally Blonde (2001) grossed over 140 million dollars worldwide, the sequel Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde (2003), where Elle Woods now works at a major law firm, was also a resounding success at the box office.

Legally Blonde 3, a third installment starring Reese Witherspoon, has reportedly been in the works for years. However, it has been repeatedly delayed. Another series set in the world of Legally Blonde is also being considered. Further details regarding this spin-off remain under wraps for now.
