The romcom The Holiday to be adapted into a series
A few months ago, news came out that the film My Best Friend’s Wedding (1997) would be getting a sequel. At the beginning of August 2025, another piece of news confirmed the studios’ growing interest in old romantic comedies. Indeed, a series adaptation of The Holiday (2006) is in the making by Apple TV+. As the first opus aired on M6 channel on January 2nd, 2026, Numéro takes stock.
Apple TV+ is currently creating a new version of this cult romantic comedy with new characters, while keeping the original concept that struck a chord in audiences. Two very different women, both going through tough times, swap homes for the holidays… And just as they hit rock bottom, love comes knocking at their door.

Who will replace Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz?
On paper, adapting this film into a series seems like a great idea. After all, The Holiday remains one of the best and most comforting romantic comedies of all time. We never tire of re-watching it every Christmas season. Yet, this cinematic comfort blanket owes much of its charm to its cast. The original film brought together the irresistibly charismatic Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz, Jude Law, and Jack Black. It’s hard to imagine any actors stepping into their roles and delivering the same emotional depth and chemistry.
Another downside? Nancy Meyers, the screenwriter and director of the original film, won’t be involved in this new adaptation. In fact, she reportedly learned about the series from the press, as she stated on Instagram. That being said, other developments might reassure fans of the 2006 film.

Jude Law to star in the new series?
The script will be written by Krissie Ducker (Killing Eve, Sweetpea), who will also serve as executive producer, while screenwriter Rob Delaney (Dying for Sex) will be a consultant. The series will be produced by Left Bank Pictures, the British production company behind The Crown and Outlander. So there’s still hope that the casting lives up to this romantic gem from the 2000s. Especially since the Apple TV+ label often guarantees good quality production…
We would absolutely love to see some of the original cast return for the show. On that note, Jude Law shared in an interview with Today: “You know, I’ve heard of it. I don’t know anything about it. Nothing, except that I don’t think I’m part of it. (…). I think Nancy [Meyers] wrote to me and asked: ‘Have you heard of it?’ Literally.” The actor went on to say he would consider taking part in the series on one condition: the cult film’s director has to be involved in the new project.
The series The Holiday does not have a release date yet. The Holiday (2026) by Nancy Meyers, available on Netflix.
