After leaving a lasting impression with her Palme d’Or-winning and Oscar-winning film Anatomy of a Fall in 2023, Justine Triet (Sibyl, Victoria) is finally back. The French filmmaker, 47, is reportedly in the process of shooting her new feature film.
Fonda, Justine Triet’s new film starring Mia Goth
That’s what a recent Instagram photo posted by her producer Marie-Ange Luciani suggested. It showed Justine Triet on a film set surrounded by her crew. For now, little is known about the filmmaker’s new feature.
According to Deadline, her upcoming film will be titled Fonda and will be shot in English. The brilliant Mia Goth (Frankenstein) will star in this hyperlink feature. In doing so, Justine Triet joins an increasing number of French filmmakers working with English-speaking actresses. Think of Coralie Fargeat and Demi Moore in The Substance (2024), Alice Winocour and Angelina Jolie in Couture (2026), or Rebecca Zlotowski and Jodie Foster in A Private Life (2025).

Andrew Scott and Odessa A’zion in the cast
The charismatic Andrew Scott (Fleabag, All of Us Strangers, Ripley), Odessa A’zion (Marty Supreme), Frank Dillane (Urchin), Nathan Stewart-Jarrett (Misfits), Cherry Jones (Five Days at Memorial), Benedict Wong (Weapons) and Allison Janney (I, Tonya) are part of the project too. Filming is said to take place in Dax next spring.
As for the plot, it remains shrouded in mystery. “A psychological thriller set in a seemingly idyllic closed environment, Fonda takes us on a dizzying journey through the shifting boundaries of a sound mind, as grief and obsession gradually take hold of it.”
A project starring Cate Blanchett?
Until now, the American media had suggested that Justine Triet’s upcoming film might be an adaptation of Monica, a graphic novel by American cartoonist, illustrator, and screenwriter Daniel Clowes (Ghost World, Patience, David Boring). This remarkable biographical narrative, both intricate and surreal, weaves multiple storylines that ultimately converge into one. At the heart is the tale of a young girl abandoned by her mother in the 1960s. She will then try to find her in a dense narrative filled with outcasts and addressing the Vietnam War, drugs, and cults.
To bring this story to the screen, Justine Triet has reportedly cast a major star… The Australian-American actress Cate Blanchett. But it turns out that the role ultimately went to Mia Goth…
The film Fonda by Justine Triet does not have a release date yet.
