As the old saying goes, “sex sells”. And who better than our favorite stars to help move thousands of units of sexy goods and hot merch? Rather than limiting themselves to being perceived as sexualized objects, some celebrities cleverly play with their Hollywood image to launch their own lines of risqué products.
Sex toys, everyday objects with a provocative appeal… The art of sexy merchandising is ruling sales today. From a solid gold cock ring imagined by Frank Ocean to a range of bar soaps made from none other than Sydney Sweeney’s bath water… Here’s an overview of three stars, who have thrown themselves into the business of charming, seductive objects.
The world’s most expensive penis ring by Frank Ocean
In 2022, singer Frank Ocean unveiled the boldest piece of jewellery of the year: a cock ring. For those unfamiliar with this object, it is a circular band typically made of metal, rubber, or leather, designed to be worn at the base of the penis. For the modest price of €25,000 ($25,570), Frank Ocean offered fans the chance to own the world’s most expensive cock ring.
This piece was launched by the American singer-songwriter through his jewellery label, Homer, founded in 2021. The artist already made the Time magazine’s list of the world’s 100 most influential people at just 25. Since the start of his career in 2011, he has become a cult figure of the R’n’B scene. All the while exploring various other creative ventures, including filmmaking.
The label Homer, which describes itself as an “independent American luxury company,” announced a new line of accessories and jewellery. The collection includes pendants, chains, earrings, and rings. Among them, an intimate luxury object took everyone by surprise. Named The XXXL H-Bone Cock Ring, the handcrafted ring is available online and in store. Either in plain yellow gold or in 18-karat yellow gold set with small lab-grown white diamonds shaped like bones.
To announce the launch of this item, the American label posted a striking photo on Instagram, which no longer exists today. The image showed a naked man wearing the infamous ring on a pixelated sex organ, the cock ring being the only visible detail. As a matter of fact, no one knew who the model was. Some believe it might have been Frank Ocean himself posing for the commercial.
A soap made from Sydney Sweeney’s bath water
The scene sent chills down many spines. Disgust, shock, embarrassment, perhaps arousal even… In Saltburn (2023), directed by Emerald Fennell, actor Barry Keoghan crawled into a bathtub almost drained of water. Moments earlier, Jacob Elordi had been masturbating in that same bath. On camera, the Irish actor squatted down and lapped at what remains of the Euphoria star’s semen. Months after the film’s release, the Saltburn soundtrack vinyl immortalized that now-notorious moment. The record’s design features a transparent layer containing a suspicious liquid…
Sydney Sweeney’s latest collaboration seems to draw its inspiration from that meme. The actress, who starred alongside Jacob Elordi in the series Euphoria, has partnered with the brand Dr. Squatch to create a bar soap. Among its ingredients is her bath water…
The product was an instant sell-out, priced at eight dollars the unit. A bold, but successful move from the actress, who has often shared during interview how she has been hypersexualized from her high school years up until today in her successful career.
Harry Styles designs a dildo and lubricant
In Watermelon Sugar, the lead single from his 2021 album Fine Line, Harry Styles sings about ecstasy. The former One Direction member explained that the song was about both the “sweetness of life” and “female orgasm” during a concert that same year.
And this year, the British pop star decided to explore pleasure from another angle. On July 24th, Styles launched a collaboration with his brand Pleasing. As a result, he offered a product line called Pleasing Yourself, including a lubricant and a dildo.
The latter was co-designed with sexologist and author Zoe Ligon, who described the vibrator in The Cut as “a great toy for both beginners and experienced users.” After launching a nail polish line in 2021 and selling out a vibrator and lubricant, one wonders what Harry Styles has in store for his next merchandising venture.
