Haruhiko Kawaguchi a disposé une bouteille d’oxygène à quelques mètres du lieu de la prise de vue. Autoritaire et intransigeant, le photographe japonais cherche à minimiser les risques de blessures liés à son étrange activité. Méthodiquement, il invite ses modèles à s’étendre sur le sol d’une cuisine qu’ils ne connaissent pas. Des hommes et des femmes s’étreignent alors et se préparent à une expérience aussi insolite que dangereuse. 

 

 

Les couples sont mariés, concubins, divorcés et, parfois même, se haïssent.

 

 

Pour ses séries Flesh Love et Flesh Love Returns, l’artiste quadragénaire Haruhiko Kawaguchi, plus connu sous le nom de Photographer Hal, enveloppe des couples dans des bâches de plastique puis en extrait l’air à l’aide d’un aspirateur. Prisonniers, ils sont alors privés d’espace et d’oxygène et, sous la pression, leurs corps se métamorphosent. “Pour communiquer, les deux amants sont contraints de dessiner ce qu’ils veulent exprimer avec leur corps”, explique-t-il. Entravés, asphyxiés, enlacés… Le supplice ne dure qu’une dizaine de secondes. Le temps nécessaire à Haruhiko Kawaguchi pour activer le déclencheur de son appareil photographique et immortaliser ces couples et leurs ébats simulés sous plastique. Durant ce cours laps de temps, les épidermes s’entrechoquent et se superposent. Privés d’air, les amants suffoquent et entrent dans une transe furtive propice à l’introspection. Car, sous vide, dans leur étroite bulle transparente, les secondes deviennent des heures. Et avant de hurler, sur le point de perdre connaissance, ces cobayes d’un nouveau genre expérimentent le plaisir de la suffocation, à l’orée de l’orgasme.

 

C’est à Tokyo que l’artiste Photographer Hal propose à des couples de les mettre sous vide dans l’environnement qui leur sied. Lorsque ce n’est pas chez lui, sur le sol de sa modeste cuisine, le décor est souvent celui d’une première rencontre ou d’une chambre portant les stigmates du quotidien. Les couples sont mariés, concubins, divorcés, et parfois même, se haïssent. Fanatique de la déformation des corps, le photographe a rapidement découvert que la baignoire était l’endroit idéal pour ces binômes aimantés : “J’ai senti que c’était l’endroit le plus privé du foyer pour un couple. Ici, l’amour pouvait atteindre son apogée.
