Why you must see the exhibit “DANCING TEXTURE” by Issey Miyake in Paris

After the success of its first edition in Paris last January, the house of Issey Miyake is unveiling a new ephemeral exhibition dedicated to the craftsmanship and philosophy of its label IM MEN from June 28th to July 1st, 2025.

  • By Camille Bois-Martin.

  • To explore the know-how of the Japanese house

Both unique and avant-garde, the Japanese house Issey Miyake remains one of the most influential brands of the past decades. Founded in 1971 by the eponymous designer, the label introduced a forward-thinking wardrobe focusing on cuts and fabrics, and deliberately detached from the seasonal trends of the fashion industry.

In the early 1990s, Issey Miyake introduced his iconic pleated technical fabric that would become his signature – soft to the touch, washable, crease-resistant, and lightweight. This innovative textile draws on traditional techniques, especially flat cutting from Japan, and places lightness and fluidity at the core of the brand’s identity.

To (re)discover the brilliant trio of designers behind IM MEN

This unmatched craftsmanship will be on display in the heart of Paris, within the walls of the Atelier Vendôme. The exhibition will be focusing on the innovative approach of the IM MEN line, launched in 2021 by Issey Miyake. Inspired by the concept of “a piece of cloth” created by its founder, who crafted garments from a single piece of fabric, the label will showcase its latest research in garment construction and textile design from its Spring/Summer 2026 collection.

At the helm of IM MEN’s design team are three creators appointed by Issey Miyake himself: Yuki Itakura, Sen Kawahara, and Nobutaka Kobayashi. Dedicated to menswear, the name of the label refers to the brand “im product”. Launched in the late 1970s and discontinued in the 1990s, it aimed at producing functional clothing through poetic and easy-wear silhouettes.

Thus, two days after the second IM MEN show scheduled for June 26th during the Paris Men’s Fashion Week (from June 24th to 29th), the Japanese house will present the pieces from its Spring/Summer 2026 collection. Free and open to the public by reservation, the exhibition “DANCING TEXTURE”, open from June 28th to July 1st, invites visitors to explore the various fabrics and techniques used to create those garments. It follows on from the brand’s first show held last January in the 6th arrondissement in Paris.

This event offers everyone the opportunity to discover the brand’s designs up close and gives the house a means to engage with a new audience. All that based on the dialogue between traditional Japanese craftsmanship and modern technology as the guiding principle of the house since its creation. A must-see event.
