Why is ‘Miu Miu Boy’ the menswear trend of 2025?
Rooted in a style that is both preppy and casual, Miu Miu Boy is set to be the leading menswear trend of 2025. First seen on the Miu Miu catwalks in 1999, this aesthetic is now enjoying its moment of glory with celebrities like Troye Sivan or Willem Dafoe, and is quite popular among Gen Z. Here’s an overview of a trend that has taken catwalks and social media by storm.

The Miu Miu Boy’s debuts on the catwalk
Although the Miu Miu Boy is a key trend in the masculine wardrobe of 2025, it is nothing we haven’t seen before. It began as a men’s ready-to-wear collection designed by Miuccia Prada for Miu Miu in 1999 that the house discontinued in 2008 to refocus on womenswear.
2022 marked the comeback of that menswear collection on the catwalk for the Fall/Winter 2022 collection. These men’s silhouettes embraced Miu Miu’s feminine aesthetic and emphasized androgyny with knee-length skirts, tiny handbags and sheepskin coats.
The show kicked off the rebirth of a trend – the Miu Miu Boy. Under the wing of the Italian house, the style blurred the lines of old rigid codes of virility and masculinity, drawing on preppy and more childlike pieces.
Drawing its inspiration from the Y2K aesthetic of the 2000s, when brands like Abercrombie & Fitch, Hollister and American Eagle were at the height of their success, this fashion stance is now attracting the attention of Gen Z, who are giving it a new lease of life on social media.
Librarian’s glasses, checked shirts, loafers… the Miu Miu Boy must-haves
While the Miu Miu Boy trend juggles different inspirations, it doesn’t escape from certain rules and is above all based on layering. Underwear is sometimes highlighted, such as in the Miu Miu Spring/Summer 2025 show, where bodysuits and boxer shorts’ elastics sticking out of tailored trousers are kings. For the top, a checked shirt with a messy collar and topped off with a navy blue polo shirt are on the agenda. As for the bottoms, the style offers more freedom, as long as you opt for the colour blue again on a pair of swimsuit-like Bermudas or belted jeans.
Another Miu Miu Boy must-have? A pair of untied shoes, like sandals, boat shoes, strapped derbies or loafers. On top of all that, you can opt for a resolutely retro pair of glasses, just like those worn by librarians – a sexy touch that echoes the ‘office siren’ style popularised by Bella Hadid, who also relies on old-fashioned glasses as a glamorous accessory.
To pull off this look, you also need to focus on the details. Hands can be covered with leather gloves, while the shirt cuffs are not ironed. A crumpled effect rooted in Miu Miu’s aesthetic, where the casual meets the sophisticated to create interesting contrasts.
One cannot ignore the handbag, the new must-have accessory for men in 2025, as actor Jacob Elordi demonstrates it. Among the most coveted designs is Miu Miu’s leather Beau bag in cognac, spotted on the arm of many fans of this trend.
Troye Sivan and Willem Dafoe lead the way
While many TikTok users have popularised the trend and recreated the style in their own way to popularize it, it is above all celebrities from the film and music industries who have brought it to the forefront, like Australian singer Troye Sivan, an iconic queer figure on the music scene and close friend of Charli xcx and Addison Rae.
The artist, seen in the HBO series The Idol (2023), has established himself as the leader of the Miu Miu Boy trend, in particular thanks to the Miu Miu Spring/Summer 2023-2024 show, where he walked the catwalk for the first time wearing a shirt coupled with a blue polo shirt, surfer-style shorts and boat shoes. This choice is far from being a coincidence since the 29-year-old artist loves preppy outfits – one of his latest looks showcased a chic, geek allure at the Prada Fall/Winter 2025 show during Milan Fashion Week.
In October 2024, it was the turn of American actor Willem Dafoe to close the Miu Miu show at the Paris Fashion Week. At 69, the actor became the latest Miu Miu Boy, sporting a silhouette that was right on trend – a long coat, a navy blue polo shirt worn over a messy shirt, sober grey trousers and black ankle boots for a rock’n’roll touch. The actor made a noteworthy appearance in a navy blue cardigan and black strapped derbies.
Thanks to those celebrities, Miu Miu is once again highlighting its androgynous men’s collections. While the Miu Miu Boy style has already been adopted by Omar Apollo, ASAP Rocky and Kim Jones, creative director of Dior Homme, we’re hoping that the aesthetic will spread and perhaps seduce other celebrities, such as Mark Eydelshteyn (Anora), Dominic Sessa (Winter Break) and Timothée Chalamet (A Complete Unknown)…
