Angèle, a Belgian pop star and fashion icon

Launched into stardom with her debut album Brol in 2018, which sold over a million copies, Angèle quickly made her mark among the top names in Francophone pop. Born into a family of artists and mentored early on by the likes of Damso and Ibeyi, for whom she performed as their opening act, Angèle dreamed not only of music, but of fashion too. At just 12 years old, she bought her first sewing machine, eager to create her own clothes.

When she burst onto the music scene, Angèle brought with her a wardrobe full of vibrant hues, in sync with the whimsical aesthetic of her music videos for Brol. Think: a baby blue cloud-print cardigan in La Loi de Murphy (2017), a long-sleeved crimson dress in Jalousie (2018), and a mustard yellow jumpsuit in La Thune (2018). Her outfits, much like the persona she shares on Instagram, are colorful, quirky, and full of life.

In 2019, Angèle embarked on her first solo tour, traveling across France, the United States, Canada, and her native Belgium. At the time, her look leaned on streetwear. Think laid-back tank tops, vibrant tracksuits, and pastel puffer jackets…

    A collaboration with Chanel

Her connection with Chanel began when she attended the house’s Spring/Summer 2020 show in September 2019, led by Virginie Viard at the time. Then, she made a splash at the Métiers d’Art Fall/Winter 2019–2020 show in her black and beige tweed jacket.

It was in Chanel that Angèle made her Met Gala debut in 2023. The Belgian singer was stunning in her black cut-out dress inspired by a 1995 Karl Lagerfeld design. That appearance marked a shift in her fashion identity.

Among her most iconic collaborations with Chanel were the stage outfits for her Nonante-Cinq Tour in 2022 and 2023. Virginie Viard reimagined signature Chanel silhouettes – sparkling jackets, sleeveless tops, colorful mini-skirts and shorts – bringing the house’s codes to the concert stage.

    From “coquette to “femme fatale”

Gradually, Angèle moved away from girly bows, rhinestone belts, and glittery touches. Instead, she opted for a more rock-tinged, graphic aesthetic.

For the Courrèges Fall/Winter 2024–2025 show, she sported a bold new look – a short blond bob with bangs, paired with a black leather jumpsuit adorned with straps.

Just days later, she turned heads again at the Coperni show, dressed in a daring all-black ensemble—a plunging bodysuit worn without pants, layered under a long coat and sheer tights.

The techno-chic label, created by Arnaud Vaillant and Sébastien Meyer, also dressed the artist for her performance at the closing ceremony of the 2024 Summer Olympics. Her rendition of Nightcall by producer Kavinsky was one of the highlights of that night.

Over the years, Angèle has steadily embraced the role of fashion-forward pop star with increasing flair. And we can’t wait to see what she has in store next…
