The trend spotted at the Gucci show: evening gowns paired with riding boots

At the Gucci Fall/Winter 2024-2025 show, Sabato de Sarno combined lingerie-inspired evening dresses with riding boots. Perhaps a looming equestrian trend for the end of the year?

A new kind of glamour on display at the Gucci show by Sabato de Sarno

Among the most eagerly awaited shows of the Milan Fashion Week was the Gucci Fall/Winter 2024-2025 runway show. Presented last Friday, February 23rd, the collection confirmed the vision of its designer, Sabato de Sarno. At odds with the maximalist, retro-futurist aesthetics of his predecessor Alessandro Michele, the Italian designer and former right-hand man to Pierpaolo Piccioli at Valentino, preferred a delicate, at times subversive, type of glamour enhanced by refined cuts and monochrome ensembles.

Extending the vision of his first show, Sabato de Sarno injected a healthy dose of casualness into sexy silhouettes, without them being showy, that resulted in a wearable and appealing wardrobe.

While this Gucci Fall/Winter 2024-2025 collection clashed with the previous ones as it didn’t feature any pants – but highlighted shorts, mini, midi, maxi dresses, as well as short coats and cardigans – a trend has emerged for 2024 that should delight those who are put off by high heels.

Evening gowns and riding boots, the upcoming trend for the winter 2024

Just like at the Fendi show presented two days prior, Gucci’s flagship footwear pieces for next winter will be leather boots or thigh-high boots. Yet, while the Roman fashion house offered shoes with heels, the luxury brand founded in Florence in 1921 opted for flat designs that draw their inspiration from the house’s equestrian heritage.

Sabato de Sarno infuses our evening looks with a touch of modernity through the association of these famous riding boots adorned with a long metallic bit and evening gowns, sequins or lingerie-inspired dresses. A play of contrasts that offers an unexpected alternative to the sleep dress and biker boot duo, which ends up being a little too grungy and old-fashioned.

Along with the sheer skirts and dresses that are already establishing themselves as the star pieces of 2024, this new trend set by Gucci is one to watch closely in the upcoming months.
