Will Mocha Mousse, the colour of the year 2025, cause a stir?

As the year 2025 approaches, the American company Pantone has selected the colour that is set to influence the worlds of fashion and design. Launched in 1999, the Pantone Color of the Year program is set to lead a new trend with its flagship colour for 2025: ‘Mocha Mousse’, a brown hue as warm and comforting as a cup of hot chocolate. Let’s dive into it.

Mocha Mousse has been voted colour of the year 2025 by Pantone

On Thursday 5th of December 2024, the American giant Pantone finally revealed the colour of the year 2025 after long days of suspense on Instagram. The revelation has been eagerly awaited, since Pantone has been selecting the colour that will rule the upcoming year, especially in the fields of design, fashion and decoration since 1999.

‘Mocha Mousse 17-1230’, a comforting shade of brown that will for sure whet your appetite, has received the award for 2025.

While ‘Mocha Mousse’ evokes the feeling of drinking a nice cup of hot chocolate or mocha snuggled up under a warm blanket, it also draws a link with nature and trees thanks to its woody aspect and apparent softness.

This luscious, sensual colour will look fantastic in many interiors, combined with shades of beige and taupe for a soothing, cocooning atmosphere.

Color of the Year, the colour programme made in Pantone

Launched in 1999, the Pantone Color of the Year program was originally an initiative that aimed at offering companies a means of taming colours for strategic purposes.

More than a mere recommendation, the Colour of the Year now has a strong impact on our wardrobes, interior designs and designer clothes.

In a 25-year span, many colours have claimed the title of ‘Colour of the Year’. Among them are ‘Peach Fuzz’, the 2024 velvety peach seen on Balmain’s and Chanel’s runways, the sparkling ‘Living Coral’, and ‘Rose Quartz & Serenity’, a soft combination of quartz pink and sky blue shades.

From the seventh art to art galleries and social media, a team of experts carefully scrutinises all areas to capture the flagship hue of the year. Each edition gives rise to a vast collection of products, including notebooks, phone cases and mugs, designed in collaboration with a variety of artists from all walks of life.

In 2023, Pantone teamed up with shoe brand Cariuma to design several pairs of sneakers in the shade ‘Viva Magenta’, the colour of that year.
