Maison Margiela shares its archives for free on Dropbox

At the start of 2026, Maison Margiela unveiled a rather unexpected and thrilling project. Titled MaisonMargiela/folders, the concept consists in sharing a large number of the house’s archives through a Dropbox file. Some documents had been kept under tight wraps until now. The announcement came ahead of the runway show taking place in China on April 1st and the four exhibitions opening in Beijing, Chengdu, Shanghai and Shenzhen.

  • Maison Margiela opens the doors to its creative process

On February 10th, 2026, a shock wave ran through the fashion world with a significant news coming up. The notoriously secretive Maison Margiela is opening the doors to its archives. With the MaisonMargiela/folders project, the house is making its internal files, carefully guarded until now, accessible to the general public.

Through his brand founded in 1988, Belgian designer Martin Margiela built an aesthetic rooted in discretion and anonymity. From January 2025 onward, new creative director Glenn Martens has been making a move just as radical.

This unprecedented project give everyone access to mood boards, images, press releases, sources of inspiration and archival material—working tools usually confined to the studio – all gathered a simple Dropbox file. A powerful act that offers a rare immersion into the universe of Maison Margiela, through a valuable re-reading of a singular and everlasting legacy, one that continues to fascinate the fashion world.

Maison Margiela announces a show and four exhibitions

So how will MaisonMargiela/folders take shape? Firstly, through a Fall/Winter 2026–2027 show presented in Shanghai on April 1st, 2026. Secondly, through four major exhibitions across China in Beijing, Chengdu, Shanghai and Shenzhen.

Open to all, these exhibitions will simply require online registration starting March 17th. Among the themes explored are a deep dive into the house’s artisanal craftsmanship, a look back at the history of masks and the question of anonymity—a sub theme running through its collections since the very beginning—as well as a focus on the iconic Tabi.

Thanks to these five unprecedented events complementing the Dropbox folder enriched over time, everyone will be able to dive deeper into Maison Margiela’s rich creative layers.

The Maison Margiela MaisonMargiela/folders file is available now on Dropbox.
