Maria Grazia Chiuri revisits the iconic Baguette bag at Fendi

In the hall of fame of iconic luxury handbags, the Baguette bag by Fendi is king. A must-have accessory that Maria Grazia Chiuri knows well. The designer revamped the famous piece in her debut all/Winter 2026-2027 show as new creative director of the Roman house.

  • The Fendi Baguette bag makes a comeback this Fall/Winter 2026-2027 season

It is one of the most iconic bags in fashion history — the Baguette by Fendi. Famously slung over Carrie Bradshaw‘s shoulder (Sarah Jessica Parker) in the series Sex and the City (1998–2004), this accessory is now among the most sought-after pieces on the resale market. It reaches sky-high prices, especially the sequined versions or those featuring Y2K colors and patterns, which have been trending for the past seasons…

While Fendi celebrated the 25th anniversary of this essential bag with a spectacular runway show in 2022, the Roman house is unveiling a series of reinterpretations of its most iconic designs for the Fall/Winter 2026–2027 collection. The intent is not to reach a milestone, but to mark Maria Grazia Chiuri‘s return to Fendi. From 2016 to 2024, the Italian designer was Dior’s artistic director, before coming back to Rome last October, the city where she started her career in 1989…

Accessories: The cornerstones of Maria Grazia Chiuri’s debut show

After several years spent in Fendi’s ateliers, she was appointed creative director of accessories and, more specifically, leather goods, alongside Pierpaolo Piccioli. Maria Grazia Chiuri oversaw and contributed to the birth of the famous Baguette bag in 1997. The idea was simple — a short-handled bag, compact and above all practical, named after the French baguette traditionally carried under the arm. Instantly recognizable, it became one of the very first it-bags, an iconic piece revamped many times.

This staple piece in the history of the brand, and in the designer’s career, was revived in her very first Fall/Winter 2026-2027 show at the helm of Fendi. Therefore, that choice feels only logical and symbolic.

At Dior, Maria Grazia Chiuri was already rekindling the French house’s iconic accessories, bringing the Saddle bag and the Lady Dior back into the spotlight. With the Baguette bag, the designer once again demonstrates her ability to create it-bags that will undoubtedly go viral. In this collection, the accessory appears in its most exquisite versions, embroidered with sequins, crafted in grained and smooth leather, or with animal prints.
