The Y2K trend takes over wardrobes

Launched in the late 1990s and early 2000s by a young generation weary of fashion’s reigning minimalism, the Y2K wave—with its statement bags—is making a bold comeback, rivaling the indie sleaze aesthetic.

Popularized by it-girls like Britney Spears and Paris Hilton, the Y2K trend is now being revived by stars such as Sabrina Carpenter and the trashy pin-up inspired Addison Rae.

Pink crop tops revealing the midriff, ultra low-rise jeans, rhinestone-studded belts and berets, platform sandals, a flood of logos, oversized sunglasses… All these Y2K details spotted on runways, social media, and city streets prove that glamour and kitsch are more present than ever.

Iconic bag designs then and now
