Gucci : A successful transition show after Sabato de Sarno’s departure

Just twenty days after the departure of its creative director Sabato de Sarno, Gucci unveiled its Fall-Winter 2025-2026 collection this tuesday, February 25, 2025, at Milan Fashion Week. As it was the case two years ago, the show was crafted by the house’s design studio.

Earlier this month, Gucci announced the departure of its creative director Sabato de Sarno—just two years after he took the reins of the Italian house. Following Alessandro Michele’s unexpected exit, the napolitan designer did not have a hand in shaping this Fall-Winter 2025-2026 collection, though some silhouettes still bear his sharp, retro-infused touch.

Designed by Gucci’s in-house studio, the collection recalls the one presented in February 2023. From the familiar set design (a velvet-covered floor, curved scenography) to the vibrant color palette and the abundance of iconic double-G and Horsebit motifs, Gucci’s expert artisans once again demonstrate their deep understanding of the house’s heritage and its clientele’s desires. The result? A quintessentially Italian, effortlessly chic sprezzatura aesthetic—an elegant fusion of Saint Laurent’s refinement and Prada’s playful edge.

The best of Gucci’s history comes together for Fall-Winter 2025-2026

Marking a transitional phase while awaiting the announcement of Gucci’s next creative director, this collection brings together the best of the brand’s history. From patterns and cuts to accessories, the pieces encapsulate the defining styles that have shaped Gucci over the decades—from its ready-to-wear debut in the 1960s to its most recent successes.

The minimalist aesthetic of the ’90s meets contemporary oversized and maximalist trends, as seen in the refined leather gloves paired with a voluminous coat or a ’70s-inspired, form-fitting velvet jumpsuit adorned with rhinestones and styled with an XXL fringe bag.

The common thread of the Fall-Winter 2025-2026 collection? The legendary Horsebit, which celebrates its 70th anniversary this year. Reimagined as a waist chain embellishing the plunging back of a dress, as a decorative element on bags, as a long necklace, a belt, or even as a handle on a slouchy shoulder bag, this iconic Gucci emblem ties together an anachronistic yet decidedly modern collection—one that is, above all, a resounding success.
