Victoria Beckham drops her glamour mask in a moving Netflix docuseries

In 2023, the world was gripped by the Beckham documentary series. It revealed a more intimate side of sports and pop culture icon David Beckham. A modest childhood, his love story with Victoria Beckham, fatherhood, depression, even darker episodes, including a tense relationship with his coach Alex Ferguson… The football player unveiled a deeply human and moving side of himself.

Among the most memorable moments of the series were those featuring his wife, Victoria Beckham. The former Spice Girl shared how deeply unhappy she was when rumours of her husband’s infidelity began to spread. She also spoke about the sexist comments football fans made about her.

Some scenes showing the businesswoman lighter and funnier in tone have since become iconic. There was that scene when David Beckham teased her for claiming she came from a working-class background… Reminding her that her father used to drive her to school in a Rolls-Royce!

A Netflix docuseries focusing on the star’s rise in the fashion industry

Anticipation was high for the documentary series focusing on the fascinating Victoria Beckham, who reveals a sense of humour far removed from the posh, glossy image she typically projects in the media.

Known for her elegance and quite rare smiles in public, the 51-year-old British star has transformed from a member of a globally successful girl band and WAG (wife or girlfriend of a footballer) into a sophisticated fashion designer at the helm of a beauty and fashion empire.

That inspiring reinvention is what Netflix aims to portray thoroughly in the docuseries Victoria Beckham, which premiered on October 9th, 2025. Directed by Nadia Hallgren, who previously made a film about Michelle Obama, the show features appearances by Eva Longoria, Donatella Versace, and Tom Ford, along with many personal revelations from a vulnerable Victoria Beckham.

Behind the scenes of a fashion show

Among the highlights of the show are glimpses of the star backstage during the preparation of a fashion show, a milestone in her career, as well as in her London studio, where she faces significant financial difficulties. Speaking about her connection to the industry she loves, she declares that fashion was a “creative outlet.”

Just like in the 2023 Netflix docuseries about her husband, she is also shown in a more intimate light, surrounded by her family and children. “Get closer to Victoria Beckham in a new documentary series coming out soon on Netflix,” the streaming platform announced on X, formerly Twitter.

    Confessions about the Spice Girls

The documentary includes revelations about the girl boss, such as her fears, eating disorders, the impact of public judgment, and her self-doubt. All shared with a good dose of humour. She delivers deadpan lines like “I’m a control freak, but a nice one” or “everyone thought I was a sour-faced shrew who never smiled. But I can smile, don’t be shocked.”

She also delivered one memorable line: “Let’s be honest, I couldn’t make a cheese sandwich very well.” A sentence the star told her husband, while crying. The latter was actually trying to comfort her by telling her he would be proud of her no matter what, even if it was just for making a sandwich.

The documentary also revisits her past. “At school, I was the weird kid that nobody liked. I desperately wanted to be liked, to feel valued,” she shares. She speaks openly about her early days with the pop group: “The Spice Girls made me accept who I am. And then, overnight, it all ended.

In an article published by The Sunday Times on October 4th, 2025, the star commented that part of the series: “It’s taken me almost two decades to fight that and I feel that only now can I look back and talk about it. I’m not going to lie, being asked questions about when I was in the Spice Girls was quite triggering. And I’d say those were the most difficult moments. It was almost like therapy for me.”

The project wasn’t an obvious choice for Victoria Beckham

While the program is sincere, moving, and successful, it wasn’t an easy decision to make for Victoria Beckham. At the MIPTV (International Market of Television Programs) in London on February 25th, 2025, David Beckham shared that he had to convince his wife to take on the project.

He also hinted that the show will surprise viewers. According to Variety, the former footballer said: “My wife is one of the hardest working women that I know, and she’s been building her business for the last twenty years. There’s so many different elements of this documentary that people are going to be surprised with… I suppose some people probably think she started this brand and it came very easy.” He then added, with a touch of suspense: “I think it’s going to be really special. It’s so emotional, there’s drama – and the drama’s real.
