Has Elon Musk invented intracerebral music?
The Canadian entrepreneur Elon Musk is pushing further research on the technological optimisation of the brain. He announced yesterday on Twitter that his new project — the Neuralink chip — will allow its users to stream music directly from their brain.
What if after having suppressed the wires, we also suppressed the earplugs? That is at least what Elon Musk — Tesla’s CEO — suggested yesterday on Twitter. When asked “If we implement neuralink – can we listen to music directly from our chips?” by a user of the social network, the entrepreneur simply answered: “Yes”, creating a general surprise on Twitter.

Initiated in 2016, his Neuralink project aims at developing the human brain by using a chip, allowing surgeons to restore motor functions and to cure neurological disorders. A first-round of animal testing has been successful, Elon Musk said during a press conference in 2019: “A monkey has been able to control a computer with its brain.” The entrepreneur is pushing research on the “3.0 brain” because he fears that one day, in true Black Mirror fashion, the human brain won’t be able to compete against artificial intelligence: “Even under a benign AI, we will be left behind. With a high bandwidth brain-machine interface, we will have the option to go along for the ride.”
