With Nosferatu and Johnny, Lily-Rose Depp embarks on a whole new journey
French-American actress Lily-Rose Depp will star both in Robert Eggers’ horror film Nosferatu scheduled for 2025 and in Cédric Jimenez’s biopic about singer Johnny Hallyday, alongside Raphaël Quenard, coming out in 2027. Two very distinct genres that should prove the extent of the talent of the face of Chanel.

While her father, the rebellious Johnny Depp, dropped out of school to play in a rock band as a teenager and discovered cinema later in his twenties, the irresistible French-American nepo baby Lily-Rose Depp followed a very different path. She began her acting career in 2014 with a noticeable appearance in Tusk, alongside her father.
Then came Yoga Hosers and Planetarium directed by Rebecca Zlotowski, starring Natalie Portman in 2016. But her career really took off after her performance in the film The Dancer, alongside singer-actress Soko, in which Lily-Rose Depp embodied the frenzied Isadora Duncan.
That waltz took her up the steps of the Cannes Film Festival in 2016, and in 2019, the Chanel muse was nominated for a César for “best promising actress” thanks to her performance in Louis Garrel’s A Faithful Man (2018). Decades earlier, her mother, Vanessa Paradis, delivered a moving performance at that same ceremony in 1991
A star is born with the series The Idol
Since then, the 25-year-old actress has largely proven herself with appearances in projects like The King (2020), starring Timothée Chalamet and Robert Pattinson.
She also impressed critics with her performance in the series The Idol (2023), despite lukewarm reviews questioning the production itself. In the show, the actress plays a clueless pop star in the grip of a toxic lover and music guru embodied by The Weeknd. She brought a great deal of vulnerability to this hyper sexualized and troubled character reminiscent of Britney Spears.
Lily-Rose Depp: a popular actress soon to appear in Nosferatu and Johnny
But perhaps the best is yet to come for Lily-Rose Depp, who can act both in English and in French. In 2025, she will star in Robert Eggers’ long-awaited Nosferatu, a remake of Murnau’s 1922 cult horror film. Alongside Willem Dafoe and Bill Skarsgård, she is set to play a gothic heroine – probably the victim of a vampire – far removed from the image of the lolita she portrays in the media.
Then, she will probably read a much sunnier (and mainstream) script in Johnny, a biopic about singer Johnny Hallyday directed by Cédric Jimenez (The Stronghold) and scheduled for 2027. She might play the role of Laeticia Hallyday opposite Raphaël Quenard, who may wear the leather jacket of the French rock star. This is the kind of roles that could earn the young actress, also expected to star in Joe Talbot’s The Governesses (2025), awards and public recognition for her acting skills.
Nosferatu (2025) by Robert Eggers, starring Lily-Rose Depp and Bill Skarsgård, in cinemas on January 1st, 2025. Johnny (2027) by Cédric Jimenez, starring Raphaël Quenard and (possibly) Lily-Rose Depp, scheduled for December 2027.
