  • 2024, a breakout year for Sydney Sweeney, star of three major films

With her doll-like face and smart career choices, American actress Sydney Sweeney is steadily climbing the ranks of Hollywood stardom. In 2019, she made a noteworthy appearance in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, his ninth feature film.

That same year, she lit up the screen in HBO’s Euphoria, playing the troubled and vulnerable high schooler Cassie Howard, alongside Zendaya and Jacob Elordi. With 24 million Instagram followers, she’s also starred in critically acclaimed shows like Sharp Objects (2018) with Amy Adams and The White Lotus (2021), another HBO hit.

From blockbuster productions to hit series, nothing seems to slow Sydney Sweeney down. She even headlined the Rolling Stones’ music video Angry in 2023.

In 2024, Sweeney appeared in three major films that solidified her status as a rising Hollywood talent. In January, she starred opposite Glen Powell in the romantic comedy Anyone But You, which grossed nearly $190 million worldwide. A month later, she joined Dakota Johnson in the superhero film Madame Web.

Despite the Marvel film’s commercial flop, Sweeney quickly bounced back with a surprising third feature: Immaculate, a horror thriller in which she delivers a chilling performance as a nun caught in eerie and mysterious events.

    Hollywood’s new thriller favorite

Sydney Sweeney’s packed schedule continues into 2025, with a slew of thriller projects in the pipeline. She is reportedly in talks to star in a new adaptation of The Masque of the Red Death by Edgar Allan Poe—a gothic tale infused with horror elements.

According to production company A24, this version will lean more toward dark comedy, a perfect fit for Sweeney, who has already proven her range in both horror and comedic roles.

She’s also returning to television, co-starring with Julianne Moore in Echo Valley, a thriller for Apple TV+. The series follows a mother-daughter duo whose lives spiral after the daughter returns home, covered in someone else’s blood.

Later in 2025, she’ll star in The Cleaning Lady, a thriller adapted from the bestselling novel of the same name. Starring opposite Amanda Seyfried, Sydney Sweeney plays a housekeeper employed by a wealthy suburban New York couple, who finds herself entangled with a dangerously “perfect” husband.

From suspense to boxing, Sydney Sweeney’s ambitious roles

One of her most intriguing upcoming roles is in Eden, directed by Ron Howard. Co-starring Jude Law and Ana de Armas, the film is based on a true story about a group of people who isolate themselves on a remote island.

Meanwhile, filming has begun on the long-delayed third season of Euphoria, and she’ll also share the screen with singer Halsey in Americana, a gritty western-style crime thriller. The film debuted at South by Southwest in 2023 and received strong early praise. Sweeney is also set to produce and star in I Pretended to Be a Missing Girl, a Gone Girl-style thriller written by Eric Roth (Forrest Gump, Dune, Killers of the Flower Moon).

After tackling horror, comedy, and thrillers, Sweeney will step into the boxing ring for a biopic about 90s champion Christy Martin. Set for 2026, the film promises a gritty, Rocky-inspired story with Sweeney transforming physically for the role—mullet haircut and all.

A potential collaboration with Zendaya and Ariana Grande?

She is also slated to star in another biopic, this one helmed by actor Colman Domingo, in his directorial debut. The film will explore the forbidden love affair between Black musician Sammy Davis Jr. and white actress Kim Novak, set against the backdrop of racial segregation.

With a nearly flawless trajectory, Sweeney has even caught the attention of Jennifer Aniston, who recently expressed interest in casting her, along with Ariana Grande and Zendaya, in a remake of the 1980 cult classic 9 to 5. A potential press tour for such a film would be nothing short of iconic.

Echo Valley, directed by Michael Pearce, premieres June 13, 2025, on Apple TV+. The Cleaning Lady, directed by Paul Feig, hits theaters December 24, 2025.
