Daniel Craig and Josh O’Connor to star in Knives Out 3
Nearly five years after the release of the thriller Knives Out (2019) starring Daniel Craig as the lead character, American director Rian Johnson is getting ready to make a big comeback on Netflix. The film Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery is the third chapter of the saga centered on the conscientious detective Benoit Blanc. Following Glass Onion (2022), this new opus premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 6th, 2025. It will hit the popular streaming platform this Friday, December 12th.
For now, little has been revealed about the plot of Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, other than the fact that it will once again feature the private detective Benoit Blanc, played by Daniel Craig… After his investigation in Greece involving the eccentric billionaire Miles Bron in Glass Onion (2022), it seems that Rian Johnson unfolds his narrative as an autumnal, Gothic tale.
A thriller unfolding in a church
During the Tudum promotional event hosted by Netflix last May, a new teaser hinted at the plot of this new chapter. This third installment might take place inside a church. On September 3rd, 2025, the streaming platform confirmed the storyline of this new chapter.
The pitch? “When an incomprehensible murder takes place in the parish, the congregation is left reeling, prompting local police chief Geraldine Scott (Mila Kunis) to join forces with Benoit Blanc to unravel a case that defies all logic and faith. But as Blanc says, ‘This was dressed as a miracle, but it’s just a murder. And I solve murders.’“

The exceptional cast of the film Wake Up Dead Man
After casting singer and actress Janelle Monáe and actor Dave Bautista in Glass Onion (2022), director Rian Johnson has once again gathered an impressive cast for his upcoming feature film.
Josh O’Connor, the breakout star of Challengers (2024), will play in Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery (2025), alongside the excellent Cailee Spaeny, recently seen in the biopic Priscilla (2023) focusing on Priscilla Beaulieu’s life.

To strengthen this already outstanding cast, Rian Johnson invites Irish actor Andrew Scott, whose performance in the series Ripley (2024) was breathtaking. Finally, Glenn Close, Kerry Washington (Scandal), and Mila Kunis round out the star-studded cast of the third installment in the Knives Out saga, scheduled for release this fall 2025.
