Films and series to watch in July 2025
In July 2025, streaming platforms are going all out to capture our attention. Among highly-anticipated films, gripping thrillers and explosive comedies, the lineup promises to be rich and entertaining. From Too Much, a new series by Lena Dunham on Netflix, to the streaming of Dune: Part Two starring Timothée Chalamet on Max and the final season of Acapulco on Apple TV+, there will be something for every taste and every binge-watching mood.

On Netflix this July: Lena Dunham’s new romantic comedy
What should you watch in July 2025? On July 3rd, fans of fantasy can look forward to return of the highly-anticipated second season of The Sandman. Just a week later, on July 10th, don’t miss out on the release of Too Much, a romantic comedy directed by Lena Dunham. Actress Megan Stalter stars as Jessica, a New Yorker who got recently dumped and moves to London. There, she meets Felix, a clumsy Englishman played by Will Sharpe (The White Lotus). A bittersweet culture clash that also promises a cameo from actress Adèle Exarchopoulos too.
On July 9th, get ready for the dramatic tension of Under a Dark Sun, a family thriller led by Isabelle Adjani. The story revolves around a woman is accused of murdering her boss, who turns out to be her biological father.
Also worth watching: the return of some great classics. Since July 1st, viewers can (re)discover M. Night Shyamalan’s film Split (2016), the feel-good movie Maid in Manhattan (2002) starring Jennifer Lopez, and the cult film Jaws (1975) by Steven Spielberg. Finally, The Goldman Case (2023) by Cédric Kahn, the gripping story of a trial happening in 1970s France, will come to the platform on July 27th.
Streaming on Max: Dune: Part Two starring Timothée Chalamet
The platform Max is offering suspenseful and must-see classics this July 2025. On July 15, the documentary Kim Kardashian Diamond Heist promises to revisit the robbery that traumatized the American star in 2016. A program that navigates between personal confessions and criminal investigation.
On July 17th, the series The Institute, an adaptation of Stephen King’s 2019 novel, will give you goosebumps. In this show, children with supernatural abilities are locked up in an institute where science flirts with horror.
Finally, July 30th will see the return of Paul Atreides (played by actor Timothée Chalamet) in Dune: Part Two (2024). The spectacular sequel to Denis Villeneuve’s first film features epic battles, political dilemmas, and prophetic visions…

On Disney+: a personal drama starring Paul Mescal
In July 2025, Disney+ is betting on a mix of animation, fan-favorite series, and poignant stories. Starting on July 2nd, Abbott Elementary is back with the finale of its fourth season. Philadelphia’s funniest school is back in session, blending shaky pedagogy with sharp social satire.
On July 18th, get ready for an emotional journey with All of Us Strangers (2024), a tender and fantasy drama directed by Andrew Haigh, starring Paul Mescal and Andrew Scott. A timeless love story, praised for its subtlety and the performances of its two leads.
Lastly, on July 23rd, we’re travelling back in time to the 19th century with Washington Black, a historical miniseries adapted from Esi Edugyan’s 2018 novel. Actor Sterling K. Brown embodies an eccentric creator, who takes a young runaway slave under his wing…

On Apple TV+: one last summer in Acapulco
In July 2025, Apple TV+ is going big with the return of Foundation on July 11th. With its power struggles, prophecies, and interstellar battles, this science fiction epic is still fascinating us with its visual grandeur and philosophical depth.
A shift will occur on July 23rd with the release of the fourth and final season of Acapulco. Blending flashbacks with present-day events, the plot follows Máximo as he tries to rekindle the magic of his legendary hotel. Meanwhile, back in 1986, his younger self (Enrique Arrizon) navigates dreams of social ascent and romantic dramas inside the colourful halls of Las Colinas.
On Prime Video: a love triangle
In July, Prime Video have it both ways. On the romance side, the hit series The Summer I Turned Pretty is back with an even more intense third season on July 16th. The storyline? Belly was expecting a peaceful summer in Cousins Beach with Jeremiah… until the unexpected return of Conrad, her first love. A torn heart and a decision that could change everything.
The mood turns darker with Ballard, a new crime series featuring serial murders, buried secrets, and police corruption. A gripping thriller available on July 9th…
On MUBI: a spotlight on Marseille
Starting on July 4th, MUBI focuses on Marseille with a special edition feeling like the sunny warmth of the South and tough fate. The platform celebrates the Phocaean city through a selection of indie films in which Marseille becomes the main character.
Classics include Marius and Jeannette (1997) by Robert Guédiguian, a warm-hearted working-class chronicle full of wit, and Samia (2000) by Philippe Faucon, a subtle portrait of a teenage girl torn between tradition and freedom.
Also worth noting: Nénette and Boni (1997) by Claire Denis, a sensual ode to adolescent desire, and Shéhérazade (2018) by Jean-Bernard Marlin, a raw dive into the city’s northern neighbourhoods. A harsh and poetic cinematic journey to enjoy all summer long.
Coming to Netflix in June 2025: the must-see series Squid Game
June was a month marked by several major releases on streaming platforms. The hit series Squid Game returned for its third season on June 27th, 2025. On Apple TV+, the release of Echo Valley, a gripping family thriller directed by Michael Pearce and starring Julianne Moore and Sydney Sweeney, was not to miss.
In May on Netflix, Julianne Moore, Meghann Fahy and Milly Alcock are back with the series Sirens, a sharp and addictive dark comedy. On Prime Video, Quentin Tarantino’s gem Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019), starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt, made its debut on the platform. Meanwhile, Apple TV+ released Fountain of Youth (2025) by Guy Ritchie, an explosive adventure film starring Natalie Portman, John Krasinski, and Eiza González.
April 2025 marked the return of Black Mirror with six brand-new episodes on Netflix. Prime Video premiered Étoile, a new creation by Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino (Gilmore Girls). It offered a behind-the-scenes at a ballet company in New York and Paris, with Charlotte Gainsbourg and Lou de Laâge as the lead characters. On Disney+, the must-watch film was Deadpool & Wolverine (2024) featuring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. And Apple TV+ presented Carême (April 30th), a series that explores the fascinating life of the first Michelin-starred chef who doubled as a spy under Napoleon, starring Benjamin Voisin and Lyna Khoudri.

In March 2025 on Netflix, the spotlight was on the highly-anticipated series Adolescence, as well as The Leopard, a modern reading of Luchino Visconti’s classic starring Deva Cassel. On Disney+, the series Daredevil: Born Again came out, alongside the family comedy Alexander and His Horrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Trip, starring Eva Longoria.
February also offered some exciting new content for fans of series and indie cinema. On Max, the highly-awaited third season of The White Lotus premiered on February 17, while Apple TV+ unveiled The Gorge, a series starring Anya Taylor-Joy. On Netflix, viewers could watch Apple Cider Vinegar on February 6th, starring Kaitlyn Dever, which raises essential questions about the impact influencers have on our daily lives.
January 2025 kicked off with a packed schedule, including thrilling series and gripping films. Guillaume Canet took the lead in Ad Vitam on Netflix, an addictive thriller in which he plays a former GIGN agent facing a state scandal. Regarding the Netflix series, the successful action series The Night Agent returned for a second season on January 23rd. And documentary enthusiasts enjoyed Don’t Die: The Man Who Wanted to Live Forever on January 1st, directed by Chris Smith.
