Eleven years after her previous feature, The Intern (2015), starring Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway, American filmmaker Nancy Meyers (The Holiday, Something’s Gotta Give) is finally back behind the camera. She seems determined to stay faithful to her signature genre, offering a romantic comedy carried by an elite cast.

The official title and plot of the film remain unknown for now. However, according to Variety, it is said to be a new version of Paris Paramount, a project Nancy Meyers had been developing with Netflix in spring 2023, before it was shelved for financial reasons. The feature will ultimately be produced by Warner Bros. The studio has also announced a U.S. theatrical release scheduled for December 25th, 2027.

A stellar cast starring Penélope Cruz and Emma Mackey

Initially titled Paris Paramount, Nancy Meyers shared more details about that project on her social media in 2023: “Here’s one thing I can easily clear up — and that’s the title — PARIS PARAMOUNT. It’s from a quote by the brilliant and elegant comedy director (dare I say creator of the romantic comedy) Ernst Lubitsch. The movie is about a group of people making a film and the magic and mystery of what we do.”

According to Deadline, the film is currently in production. Scarlett Johansson was originally included in the cast but had to withdraw to focus on Mike Flanagan‘s feature The Exorcist (2027). Michael Fassbender (Shame) and Adam Driver (Patterson) were also considered at one point. The cast now boast major stars, such as Penélope Cruz (Volver), Owen Wilson (Marley & Me), Kieran Culkin (Succession), Jude Law (The Holiday) and Emma Mackey (Sex Education).

A reunion between the filmmaker and Jude Law

As a leading figure in American romantic comedy, Nancy Meyers is the creator of one of the genre’s modern classics, The Holiday (2006), which will soon be adapted into a TV show. Before moving into film direction, she first made a name for herself as a screenwriter and producer, particularly on Charles Shyer’s films Baby Boom (1988), Father of the Bride (1991) and its sequel.

She then directed The Parent Trap (1998) starring Lindsay Lohan, followed by the major hit What Women Want (2000) with Mel Gibson and Helen Hunt. With this new project, scheduled for Christmas 2027, Nancy Meyers signs her seventh feature film. Besides, she will reunite actor Jude Law, with whom she worked on The Holiday.

Nancy Meyers’s new comedy does not have a title yet, but will come out on December 25th, 2027 in the US.
