After a sci-fi horror movie, Flying Lotus will unveil a new EP
A longtime collaborator of Kendrick Lamar, Solange and David Lynch, American electronic musician Flying Lotus will unveil Big Mama, a new EP, in March 2026, following the release of his horror feature Ash in 2025.

Flying Lotus, a producer acclaimed by Solange and Kendrick Lamar
Many artists have fallen for the mesmerizing musical compositions of American producer and rapper Flying Lotus. Solange, Kendrick Lamar, Erykah Badu, Thundercat and even David Lynch… At the heart of his electronic reveries, offbeats reign supreme and minimalist melodies burst forth like laser gunshots. Each one of his tracks feels like a convulsion.
The sounds flow and dissipate like a colourful oil slick spreading across the asphalt. They then move frantically, and finally fade away like exhausted comets. Acclaimed by critics across the board, his studio albums condense David Lynch’s strange dreams, Salvador Dalí’s miraculous scenes and the psyche of an ordinary person under the influence of LSD. In 2019, he arguably released his most accessible opus, Flamagra. His sixth volcanic and resolutely hip-hop record was conceived as a storyboard of his own reveries.
Ash, the producer’s unexpected horror movie
In 2025, Flying Lotus, 42, surprised his audience by unveiling his directorial debut. The story of his horror feature? An unnamed woman opens her eyes and finds herself aboard a blood-soaked spacecraft. The ship’s crew has been brutally slaughtered by someone… or something. With very little information at her disposal, the protagonist has to investigate, and, above all, survive.
Titled Ash, the sci-fi, horrific project evokes Ridley Scott’s Alien, but also John Carpenter‘s works or the cult third-person shooter game Dead Space, whose first installment came out in 2008. Flying Lotus was backed by the independent production companies GFC Films and XYZ. They are known for producing Gareth Evans’s The Raid and The Raid 2.
As for the cast, Tessa Thompson and Joseph Gordon-Levitt were ultimately replaced by Mexican actress Eiza González (Baby Driver, Ambulance) and Aaron Paul, best known for his roles in the show Breaking Bad. The film is still available on Amazon Prime.
A new EP for 2026
The musician naturally composed the entire soundtrack. It was not his first foray into film scoring. He previously scored the short film Blade Runner: Black Out 2022 (2017) for Shin’ichirō Watanabe and, more recently, the Netflix series Yasuke, which plunged viewers into a war-torn feudal Japan. For these projects, the producer drew his inspiration from John Carpenter, Akira Yamaoka, Angelo Badalamenti and Vangelis.
After his foray into cinema, Flying Lotus announced the release of his upcoming EP, Big Mama, on March 6th, 2026, composed shortly after completing the score for Ash. A press release described this eight-track record as maximalist, explosive and experimental. Something to delight the artist’s fans.
