The Met Gala, a major fashion event

Year after year, the Met Gala remains one of the most closely watched events in the fashion world. Every first Monday of May, the opening ceremony for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s grand annual exhibition gathers a host of celebrities. The event showcases spectacular creations and breathtaking collaborations.

The theme of last year’s edition was “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” and focused on Black dandyism. Bad Bunny to Chappell Roan and Rihanna dazzled us with memorable red carpet looks in 2025. It also revisited dandyism through twelve key chapters, drawing its inspiration from Monica L. Miller’s book Slaves to Fashion. The latter co-curated the exhibition with Andrew Bolton.

“Costume Art” is the theme for the 2026 Met Gala

This year’s annual charity gala will have “Costume Art” as a dress code. It will accompany the opening of the exhibition of the same name presented at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The show will bring together historical pieces, contemporary creations, and major works from the museum’s collections.

The goal? To showcase how clothing shapes the body, and how the body influences its representation. For Andrew Bolton, chief curator of the Costume Institute, the idea is simple. At the Met, no matter which gallery you walk through, the connection between bodies and clothes always manifest.

According to early information published on the official website of the Met, the exhibition “Costume Art” will explore that relationship across time. A wide range of media, from ancient marble to the most refined couture archives, will trace back the story of costume.

Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman… Co-chairs of the 2026 Met Gala

Following in the footsteps of Pharrell Williams, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, and Colman Domingo, the Met Gala revealed the new co-chairson December 10th, 2025. To the delight of fashion lovers all around the world.

The 2026 edition will mark Beyoncé’s grand return to the Met Gala, ten years after her last appearance. In 2016, Queen B turned heads in a Givenchy couture gown for the “Manus x Machina” edition. Nicole Kidman and Venus Williams, two Met Gala regulars who both attended the “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” edition last year, are joining her as co-chairs, along with Anna Wintour.

On February 23rd, 2026, Anthony Vaccarello and Zoë Kravitz co-chaired the host committee. The committee brought together a host of artists and personalities connected to the fashion world. Sabrina Carpenter, Alex Consani, A’ja Wilson, and French singer Yseult, thus embarked on this adventure as members of the host committee. The lineup further expanded to include several big names, such as Chase Sui Wonders, Adut Akech, Angela Bassett, Sinéad Burke, Rebecca Hall, and Amy Sherald. One thing’s for sure, this new edition is one of this year’s most thrilling events.

This year’s edition of the Met Gala will take place on May 4th, 2026. The “Costume Art” exhibition will run from May 10th, 2026, to January 10th, 2027, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
