  • Grace Wales Bonner, the prodigy of menswear

She first made waves in 2016, when she won the LVMH Prize at just 25 years old. The award not only put the young British talent in the spotlight, but also marked the birth of a new vision of fashion. Acclaimed by the art world, notably by Hans Ulrich Obrist, Grace Wales Bonner embodies a new generation of designers weaving links between identity, culture, and elegance.

As the daughter of a Jamaican father and a British mother, she grew up in South London in the midst of a vibrant mix of cultures. After graduating from Central Saint Martins, Grace Wales Bonner founded her eponymous label in 2014. Her universe quickly took shape, unveiling a subtle dialogue between European tailoring and the spiritual and aesthetic legacies of the Black diaspora. Through her collections, she composes a narrative steeped in beauty, dignity, and memory. “I wanted to show an image of Black men imbued with grace and sophistication,” she told Numéro.

Hermès chose her for the menswear collections

First a collaboration with Adidas Originals, then her collections being shown in London and Paris… Now, Grace Wales Bonner is opening a new chapter in her career at Hermès. On October 21st, 2025, she was appointed creative director of the house’s menswear collections, succeeding Véronique Nichanian, who held that position since 1988. “I am deeply honoured to be entrusted with the role of creative director of Hermès men’s ready-to-wear. It is a dream realised to embark on this new chapter, following in a lineage of inspired craftspeople and designers,” she stated in a press release.
