In 1992, American actress Sharon Stone walked the runway wearing a crown and a golden dress for Thierry Mugler in Los Angeles. A sexy, very glamorous image for the one who took the world by storm starring in Paul Verhoeven’s provocative Basic Instinct. In 2025, she is picking up the torch, posing for Mugler’s re/edit campaign. Acapsule collection of 24 looks that reinterpret iconic archival designs. For that, Sharon Stone strikes a series of powerful and sensual poses.

Sharon Stone, the sensual and powerful face of Mugler’s new collection

Influenced by 1990s thrillers and some of Mugler’s polished campaigns shot by Guy Bourdin and Helmut Newton, the photos portray Sharon Stone as venomous and statuesque. At 67, the star appears in a seated position, triumphant, wearing an open blazer revealing her bare chest with high heels. Next to her, a man in underwear.

In another photograph, she takes center stage in a garden wearing a black evening gown with sparkling earrings. A naked man is facing her. In yet another picture, she poses with her legs crossed wearing red tights… A cheeky nod to the incendiary Catherine Tramell from Basic Instinct.

An eternal sex symbol and icon of empowerment

In these photos, the actress dons pieces designed by Manfred Thierry Mugler for couture ready-to-wear collections from 1985 to 2000. These looks echo Sharon Stone’s brilliant career. In 1992, she captivated the world and became a sex symbol by simply crossing and uncrossing her legs during an interrogation in the erotic thrillerBasic Instinct.

But as shown in a recent Arte documentary (Sharon Stone, The Survival Instinct), she then distanced herself from that sexualized image to reveal her strong character and personality. Cerebral and committed, while maintaining her deeply erotic flair.

The actress and producer has spoken out against Hollywood’s misogyny in numerous interviews. As a former model, she also demanded equal pay from studio executives. The latters then said she had “the biggest balls in Hollywood.

Like actress Pamela Anderson, who used to be criticized for her sex tape before becoming a symbol of resilience, Sharon Stone has never let men define who she is. This bold, unapologetic, and triumphant woman is an inspiration for empowerment and Mugler’s new campaign beautifully captures it.

The Mugler re/edit capsule collection will be available in September 2025 on mugler.com and in selected stores of the house.
