What’s in store for Adam McKay’s upcoming film starring Robert Pattinson as a serial killer?

S’il s’était illustré à ses débuts dans le domaine de la télévision, en participant à l’émission L’Amérique de Michael Moore : l’incroyable vérité, puis en devenant chef scénariste de l’émission de divertissement de la chaîne NBC, Saturday Night Live, la carrière d’Adam McKay (54 ans) semble avoir pris une toute autre tournure. Tout a changé en 2021 pour l’Américain, avec la sortie de son film Don’t Look Up : Déni cosmique sur Netflix. La comédie dramatique s’est rapidement érigée au rang de second film le plus visionné de l’histoire de la plateforme (derrière Red Notice, sorti en 2021). Véritable cri d’alerte face à l’inaction de nos gouvernements pour faire face au réchauffement climatique, ce long-métrage – remarquablement interprété (par Leonardo DiCaprio et Jennifer Lawrence) – a ouvert de nouvelles portes à son réalisateur. Pour le casting de son nouveau projet, Average Height, Average Build, qui devrait voir le jour en 2024, Adam McKay réunira d’autres acteurs prestigieux dont Robert Pattinson, Robert Downey Jr., Forest Whitaker et Amy Adams. Le film mêlera meurtres et histoires de lobbyistes dans la vie politique américaine. Dans la continuité de Don’t Look Up, le réalisateur s’attellera à pointer du doigt une nouvelle faille du système politique américain. Cette fois-ci, c’est la corruption, gangrenant parfois les hautes sphères d’influence qui sera au centre de Average Height, Average Build. Robert Pattinson y incarnera un tueur en série qui entre en politique avec l’aide d’une lobbyiste (Amy Adams) voulant faire changer les lois pour qu’il échappe à la justice. Robert Downey Jr. jouera quant à lui un policier à la retraite qui poursuit malgré tout son enquête en traquant le tueur.

2. Robert Pattinson et Amy Adams : deux acteurs très courtisés 

Récemment aperçu dans le Blockbuster The Batman (2022) de Matt Reeves aux côtés de Zoë Kravitz, l’acteur britannique Robert Pattinson – propulsé sur le devant de la scène suite à la diffusion de la saga Twilight – semble plus que jamais indispensable aux yeux des producteurs et réalisateurs de films d’envergure. Fort du succès commercial de ce premier volet (plus de 2 millions d’entrées dans les salles de l’hexagone), le récit de fiction suivant les pérégrinations de Bruce Wayne à Gotham City aura le droit à une suite. The Batman Part II verra en effet le jour en 2025. On verra également Robert Pattinson dans le pochain film de Bong Joon Ho, Mickey 17, en salle le 27 mai 2024. Quant à l’actrice américaine Amy Adams, elle intégrera prochainement le casting de la comédie d’horreur Nightbitch (2023) ainsi que celui de la série Netflix Kings of America dont la date de sortie n’a pas encore été communiquée. Une chose est sûre, Adam McKay a le chic pour choisir des acteurs plébiscités, qui crèvent l’écran aussi bien dans des drames que dans des films d’action. Une question reste cependant en suspens : Average Height, Average Build arrivera-t-il à cristalliser les maux d’une époque avec la même justesse que Don’t Look Up ?

Everything changed for him in 2021 with the release of his feature film, Don’t Look Up, on Netflix. The comedy drama quickly became the second most viewed film in the history of the platform, after Red Notice (2021). With the remarkable performances of Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence, this genuine cry for help in the face of our governments’ inaction regarding global warming has opened new doors for the director. Adam McKay’s new project, Average Height, Average Build, scheduled for 2024, will also feature a cast of prestigious actors including Robert Pattinson, Robert Downey Jr., Forest Whitaker, and Amy Adams, and will blend murders, lobbyists, and American politics. Following on from Don’t Look Up, the director targets yet another flaw in the American political system. The corruption that often plagues the upper levels of power is now the focus in Average Height, Average Build. Robert Pattinson will play the role of a serial killer who gets into politics with the help of a lobbyist (Amy Adams) in order to change the laws so he can escape prosecutions. Robert Downey Jr. will play a retired police officer who keeps investigating and tracking the killer.

Recently seen alongside Zoë Kravitz in Matt Reeves’ blockbuster The Batman (2022), the presence British actor Robert Pattinson, who was propelled into the spotlight with the Twilight saga, is more vital than ever for producers and directors of major films. After the commercial success of the first opus, with more than 2 million tickets sold in France, the fictional story following Bruce Wayne throughout Gotham City is about to have a sequel – The Batman Part II will be released in 2025. Robert Pattinson will also be starring in Bong Joon Ho’s next film, Mickey 17, coming out on May 27th, 2024. As for the American actress Amy Adams, she will soon join the casts of the horror comedy Nightbitch (2023) and of the Netflix series Kings of America, whose release date remains unknown yet. One thing is for sure, Adam McKay has a knack for casting acclaimed actors who feel equally at home in drama and action films. One question remains, however: will Average Height, Average Build be able to crystallize the evils of an era with the same accuracy as in Don’t Look Up?
