A few years after collaborating with Raf Simons on the costume design of the films I Am Love (2009) and A Bigger Splash (2015), Italian director Luca Guadagnino has teamed up with Irish designer Jonathan Anderson to create the looks of his eagerly-awaited new project, Challengers (2024).

Actress Zendaya, currently promoting the film Dune, Part II (2024), will make a fashionable appearance on screen – surely inspired by the Y2k aesthetics – imagined by Spanish fashion house Loewe’s current artistic director.

Just a few days after presenting a JW Anderson show infused with a retro energy at the London Fashion Week, Jonathan Anderson is definitely establishing himself as one of the most beloved designers of his generation.

Challengers: director Luca Guadagnino’s exciting upcoming project

Almost two years after the release of his film Bones and All (2022), which staged the journey of two teenage cannibals played by the excellent Timothée Chalamet and Taylor Russell, Italian director Luca Guadagnino is ready to release his new feature, Challengers, on April 24th, 2024.

The breathtaking synopsis of this project can be summed up in a few words: a love triangle set against the backdrop of a tennis competition starring actress Zendaya. After playing Rue Bennet, a character with a tumultuous life in the series Euphoria (2019), that new role is set to be just as scandalous for the Hollywood darling…

At least, that’s what we can expect when we know that Challengers (2024) will be forbidden to anyone under 17 due to explicit sexual scenes and the use of crude language. Zendaya will share the screen with actors Mike Faist (West Side Story) and Josh O’Connor (soon to be seen in the biopic about Lee Miller) .

Près de deux années après la sortie de son film Bones and All (2022) qui mettait en scène les errances de deux adolescents cannibales (campés par les excellents Timothée Chalamet et Taylor Russell), le réalisateur italien Luca Guadagnino s’apprête ainsi à sortir son tout nouveau long-métrage intitulé Challengers, attendu pour le 24 avril 2024. 

Le pitch haletant de ce projet se résume en quelques mots : un triangle amoureux sur fond de compétition de tennis avec l’actrice Zendaya. Après avoir incarné Rue Bennet, un personnage au quotidien tumultueux dans la série Euphoria (2019), le nouveau rôle de l’actrice que le tout Hollywood s’arrache s’annonce donc tout aussi sulfureux…

C’est en tout cas ce que l’on devine en apprenant que Challengers (2024) sera interdit aux moins de 17 ans en raison de scènes de sexe explicites et de l’utilisation d’expressions peu recommandées aux enfants. Aux côtés de Zendaya, on retrouve les acteurs Josh O’Connor (que l’on verra bientôt dans un biopic consacré à Lee Miller) et Mike Faist (West Side Story).
