This time, her story will be told in form of a series.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><p data-start=\"752\" data-end=\"1160\">Developed by <strong>Netflix<\/strong>, the project is directed by <strong>Patricia Riggen<\/strong> (<em data-start=\"818\" data-end=\"834\">Lemonade Mouth<\/em>) and <strong>Gabriel Ripstein<\/strong> (<em data-start=\"858\" data-end=\"866\">Narcos<\/em>). <strong>M\u00f3nica Lozano<\/strong> (Alebrije Producciones) produces it, while <strong>Mar\u00eda Ren\u00e9e Prudencio<\/strong> (<em data-start=\"971\" data-end=\"986\">Club Sandwich<\/em>) takes care of the script writing. The story draws on the novel <em data-start=\"1011\" data-end=\"1029\">Nothing Is Black<\/em> (1994) by French author <strong>Claire Berest<\/strong>, which offers an intimate dive into the life of the Mexican painter <strong>Frida Kahlo<\/strong> (1907\u20131954).<\/p><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In it, the author explores the life of an artist driven by an intense creative force, turning pain and the ordeals of her life into artistic material. Robert Gerhardt.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A controversial relationship<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although the title of the series remains unknown for now, we know that the story will delve into <strong>Frida Kahlo<\/strong>&#8216;s and <strong>Diego Rivera<\/strong>&#8216;s relationship. The latter was a leading figure of <strong>Mexican muralism<\/strong> and twenty-one years her senior. They first met in 1928, when the young woman joined the Mexican Communist Party. They married a year later, giving rise to an intense and unstable relationship. Nicknamed \u201c<strong>the dove and the elephant<\/strong>,\u201d the couple embodied both fusion and conflict, and their relationship appeared extremely toxic.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Repeated infidelities, psychological violence, control, <strong>Diego Rivera<\/strong>\u2019s affair with <strong>Frida Kahlo<\/strong>\u2019s sister\u2026 Their story is peppered with painful episodes that would eventually lead to their divorce, before they remarried. In spite of everything, she continued to maintain a strong bond with him, reflected in a steady correspondence that lasted until her death.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This relationship profoundly nourished <strong>Frida Kahlo<\/strong>\u2019s work. She painted <strong>Diego Rivera<\/strong> on several occasions, sometimes in symbolic or critical ways. In <strong><em>A Few Small Nips<\/em><\/strong> (1935), she illustrates domestic violence through a bloody scene. Photo by Peter Butler.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">An endless source of inspiration<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet, this new series still raises a question: what is left to say about <strong>Frida Kahlo<\/strong> and <strong>Diego Rivera<\/strong>? Their story has already been the topic of numerous films, documentaries and books. Carolina Leconte, Content VP at Netflix Mexico, nevertheless justifies the project to <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2026\/film\/global\/frida-kahlo-diego-rivera-netflix-series-riggen-ripstein-1236685465\/\"><em>Variety<\/em><\/a>: \u201c<em>It\u2019s a daring proposal that takes us into the most intimate spaces of two figures we feel have been exhausted by myth, but whose true story we have not yet dared to face directly<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c<em>The ambition of this project is unprecedented. Along with the exhibition, a production is presented at the <strong>Metropolitan Opera<\/strong> in New York. The exhibition places the works of the two artists in resonance, inside a setting created by <strong>Jon Bausor<\/strong>, who is also involved in the creation of the performance. This dual artistic proposition aims to explore the links between their personal lives and artistic work.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Frida Kahlo<\/strong>&#8216;s legacy thus extends far beyond the realm of painting. Several decades after her death in 1954, she remains a highly influential figure. Her image circulates through exhibitions, merchandising and a wide range of cultural references. Today, it permeates fashion, music and contemporary issues.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cFrida and Diego: The Last Dream,\u201d exhibition from March 29th, 2026, to September 12th, 2027, at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.moma.org\/\">Museum of Modern Art \u2013 MoMA<\/a>, 11 W 53rd St, New York.&#13;\nThe Netflix series on Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera by Patricia Riggen and
