Each one of his tracks feels like a convulsion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The sounds flow and dissipate like a colourful oil slick spreading across the asphalt. They then move frantically, and finally fade away like exhausted comets. Acclaimed by critics across the board, his studio albums condense <strong>David Lynch<\/strong>\u2019s strange dreams, <strong>Salvador Dal\u00ed<\/strong>\u2019s miraculous scenes and the psyche of an ordinary person under the influence of LSD. In 2019, he arguably released his most accessible opus, <strong><em>Flamagra<\/em><\/strong>. The story of his horror feature? An unnamed woman opens her eyes and finds herself aboard a blood-soaked spacecraft. The ship\u2019s crew has been brutally slaughtered by someone\u2026 or something. With very little information at her disposal, the protagonist has to investigate, and, above all, survive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Titled <strong><em>Ash<\/em><\/strong>, the sci-fi, horrific project evokes <a href=\"https:\/\/numero.com\/en\/culture-en\/maurizio-guccis-murder-lady-gaga-shares-the-first-image-from-the-set-of-ridley-scotts-new-film-2\/\"><strong>Ridley Scott<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s <strong><em>Alien<\/em><\/strong>, but also <strong>John Carpenter<\/strong>&#8216;s works or the cult third-person shooter game <strong><em>Dead Space<\/em><\/strong>, whose first installment came out in 2008. <strong>Flying Lotus<\/strong> was backed by the independent production companies GFC Films and XYZ. They are known for producing Gareth Evans\u2019s <em>The Raid<\/em> and <em>The Raid 2<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As for the cast, <strong>Tessa Thompson<\/strong> and J<strong>oseph Gordon-Levitt<\/strong> were ultimately replaced by Mexican actress <strong>Eiza Gonz\u00e1lez<\/strong> (<em>Baby Driver<\/em>, <em>Ambulance<\/em>) and <strong>Aaron Paul<\/strong>, best known for his roles in the show <em>Breaking Bad<\/em>. It was not his first foray into film scoring. He previously scored the short film <strong><em>Blade Runner: Black Out 2022<\/em><\/strong> (2017) for <strong>Shin\u2019ichir\u014d Watanabe<\/strong> and, more recently, the Netflix series <strong><em>Yasuke<\/em><\/strong>, which plunged viewers into a war-torn feudal Japan. For these projects, the producer drew his inspiration from <strong>John Carpenter<\/strong>, <strong>Akira Yamaoka<\/strong>, <strong>Angelo<\/strong> <strong>Badalamenti<\/strong> and <strong>Vangelis<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After his foray into cinema, <strong>Flying Lotus<\/strong> announced the release of his upcoming EP, <strong><em>Big Mama<\/em><\/strong>, on March 6th, 2026, composed shortly after completing the score for <strong><em>Ash<\/em><\/strong>. A press release described this eight-track record as maximalist, explosive and experimental.
