Ryan Coogler’s phenomenonal Oscar-winning film Sinners<\/em><\/h2><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Shot in Louisiana between November 2024 and February 2025, Sinners<\/em><\/strong> (2025) marks the fourth collaboration between American director Ryan Coogler<\/strong> and actor Michael B. Jordan<\/strong>, following Fruitvale Station<\/em> (2013), Creed<\/em> (2015), and Black Panther<\/em><\/a><\/strong> (2018). The story is set in Mississippi in 1932. Twin brothers Smoke and Stack Moore return to their hometown to open a cabaret-like tavern, but soon have to face an invasion of vampires\u2026

Conceived as a tribute to Hoodoo culture \u2014 a syncretism born from Central and West African traditions, as well as African American and Native American legacies \u2014 the horror film captivates us thanks to its formal device. Michael B. Jordan<\/strong> embodies two brothers, a technical challenge made possible through body doubles and sophisticated visual effects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the run-up to the 98th Academy Awards<\/strong>, held on the night of March 15th\u201316th, 2026, the film had no fewer than 16 Oscar<\/strong> nominations across 12 categories. It thus became the most nominated film in Oscar history, an all-time record that places it ahead of La La Land<\/em><\/strong> (2016) and Titanic<\/em><\/strong> (1997).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But the blockbuster ultimately lost out to the political epic One Battle After Another<\/em><\/strong> (2025) by Paul Thomas Anderson<\/strong><\/a>, which won the award for Best Picture. Sinners<\/em><\/strong> still walked away with no fewer than four statuettes, including \u201cBest Original Screenplay\u201d and \u201cBest Cinematography.\u201d Meanwhile, Michael B. Jordan<\/strong> won the Oscar for Best Actor, the first of his career, that night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
