A companion who, like him, would defy death and help him bear the burden of eternal life. Although the scientist initially agrees to grant his wish, he ultimately destroys the would-be bride before her creation is complete, fearing to defy the laws of nature once again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a result, the monster\u2019s bride was denied her own fate in Mary Shelley\u2019s narrative. <strong><em>The Bride of Frankenstein<\/em><\/strong>, a 1935 film starring actress <strong>Elsa Lanchester<\/strong>, attempted to fill this gap. But while the title suggested that this character was central to the story, her screen appearance only lasted for a fleeting moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=IhgcUArO3Uo\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=IhgcUArO3Uo<\/a><\/div>\r\n<figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The trailer of the film <em>The Bride! <\/em>(2026).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Maggie Gyllenhaal\u2019s third feature film as a director<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At a time when the myth of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/numero.com\/en\/culture-en\/movies\/jacob-elordi-kylie-jenner-why-is-pop-culture-obsessed-with-frankenstein-2\/\">Frankenstein<\/a><\/strong> is captivating pop culture &#8211; an upcoming adaptation of <strong>Mary Shelley<\/strong>\u2019s novel by <strong>Guillermo del Toro<\/strong> is slated for November 2026 &#8211; <strong>Maggie Gyllenhaal<\/strong> is offering her own reading of the story. Another liberty taken by the director? Her story is set in Chicago, instead of Geneva or the North Pole. <strong><em>The Bride!<\/em><\/strong> follows the tumultuous relationship between Frankenstein and his bride. Based on the first trailer released on September 23rd, 2025, the duo seems to draw as much from gothic romance as from<strong><em> Bonnie and Clyde<\/em><\/strong> (1967).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To bring the couple to life on screen, <strong>Maggie Gyllenhaal<\/strong> once again turns to <strong>Jessie Buckley<\/strong>, whom she previously directed in her second feature, <strong><em>The Lost Daughter<\/em><\/strong>. The actress delivered a standout performance in that adaptation of <strong>Elena Ferrante<\/strong>\u2019s novel.
