“The 90s”, a major exhibition presented at Tate Modern<\/h2><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Conceived as an immersive journey into the vibrant creativity of the 1990s, The 90s<\/strong><\/em> will take over Tate Modern from October 1st, 2026, to February 14th, 2027. The exhibition will trace back a decade marked by a renewed sense of freedom and challenging established norms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As Britain was emerging from both recession and the Cold War, a new generation of artists and creators<\/strong> gained recognition. Together, they try to debunk the illusory boundaries between contemporary art, fashion, music, and popular culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Driven by the energy of the \u201cCool Britannia<\/strong>\u201d movement, in conjunction with Tony Blair\u2019s rise to power, this era saw the UK assert its cultural influence on a global scale. Galleries increasingly embraced the codes of pop culture, while fashion labels drew their inspiration from the street. Curated by renowned Ghanaian stylist Edward Enninful<\/strong><\/a>, the exhibition will spotlight these upheavals through works and archival materials that reflect the dawn of a profound shift.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Along the way, Juergen Teller<\/strong><\/a>‘s eccentric photographs and Nick Knight<\/strong><\/a>‘s visual experiments will illustrate the transformation of fashion\u2019s language. These images will echo works by Damien Hirst<\/strong><\/a>, Gillian Wearing<\/strong>, and Yinka Shonibare<\/strong>. Those key figures from the “Young British Artists” explore the body, identity, and power dynamics. Their work continues to shape contemporary creation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
