Emilia Clarke (<em>Game of Thrones<\/em>, <em>Me Before You<\/em>) carries the movie with her irresistible charm, flair and energy, as Kate, a young woman who works as an elf in a Christmas shop. After going through a terrible event, and still dreaming of becoming a singer, she crosses paths with Tom as the festive season is in full swing. The latter will quickly help her see life differently. French actor <a href=\"https:\/\/numero.com\/en\/culture\/interview-with-the-irresistible-vincent-cassel\/\"><strong>Vincent Cassel<\/strong><\/a> embodies one of these nightmarish characters in <em>Sheitan<\/em> (2007) by French director <strong>Kim Chapiron<\/strong>. He portrays the handyman Joseph, a rough, neurotic caretaker of the country house belonging to the hypnotic \u00c8ve, played by the sublime Roxane Mesquida.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After a heavy night out at a club on Christmas Eve, the young woman invites a group of yong people, including French actors<strong> Le\u00efla Bekhti<\/strong> and <strong>Ladj Ly<\/strong>, to stay with her at her farmhouse deep in the countryside. Little by little, a suffocating atmosphere sets in and the trap closes. The holiday stay soon becomes a massacre, whose climax takes place on the night of the Nativity. Its five-star cast, including <a href=\"https:\/\/numero.com\/en\/culture-en\/tv-shows\/the-holiday-is-adapting-the-cult-romcom-into-a-series-a-good-idea\/\"><strong>Cameron Diaz<\/strong><\/a>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/numero.com\/en\/culture-en\/movies\/kate-winslet-turns-to-movie-direction-with-an-ambitious-netflix-project\/\">Kate Winslet<\/a><\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/numero.com\/en\/culture-en\/movies\/venice-film-festival-2025-jude-law-embodies-vladimir-putin-for-a-french-director\/\"><strong>Jude Law<\/strong><\/a>, <strong>Jack Black<\/strong>, is a treat. Just like the houses inhabited by the protagonists and the story itself, which explores two broken hearts in search of healing.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We follow an American woman, Amanda (played by <strong>Cameron Diaz<\/strong>), and an Englishwoman, Iris (portrayed by<strong> Kate Winslet<\/strong>) who, disillusioned by the men they loved, decide to swap homes. This reversal of their lives unleashes a torrent of heightened emotions and tears for the viewer. This is the premise of <em><strong>8<\/strong> <strong>Women<\/strong><\/em> (2002), a kitsch gem that brilliantly blends burlesque and glamour. Directed by <strong>Fran\u00e7ois Ozon<\/strong>, it is based on a detective stage play written by <strong>Robert Thomas<\/strong> and first performed in 1958.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The cast brings together the <em>cr\u00e8me de la cr\u00e8me<\/em> of French cinema. <strong>Catherine Deneuve<\/strong> is the housewife, <a href=\"https:\/\/numero.com\/en\/art-design\/numero-art-en\/interview-with-isabelle-huppert-at-the-louvre-for-numero-art\/\"><strong>Isabelle Huppert<\/strong><\/a> is the bitter, hypochondriac sister, <strong>Fanny Ardant<\/strong> is a flighty femme fatale, and <strong>Emmanuelle B\u00e9ar<\/strong>t is a sensual governess. All of them deliver dazzling performances with a delightful mix of humour and macabre, even breaking into renditions of classic French pop songs on screen. In <strong><em>Bridget Jones\u2019s Diary<\/em><\/strong> (2001) by American director <strong>Sharon Maguire<\/strong>, the first film in the saga, the two singletons meet at a Christmas party in a small village in the English countryside, where their respective parents live.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ultra-kitsch reindeer jumpers, champagne and big moments of loneliness\u2026 Their first interaction is a flop and the Christmas magic cannot save them. This Disney animated feature released in 1994 plunges us into the fantastical town of Halloween, home to the Pumpkin King, <strong>Jack Skellington<\/strong>. A living scarecrow who accidentally stumbles upon a neighboring town, named Christmas Town.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After this discovery, Jack decides to transform his own city, summoning the spirit of Christmas into Halloween Town. Nominated for an Oscar for its visual effects, the film stars <strong>Catherine O\u2019Hara<\/strong> (<em>Home Alone<\/em>) and <strong>Danny Elfman<\/strong>, the famous composer behind the soundtracks of <em>Spider-Man<\/em> and <em>Charlie and the Chocolate Factory<\/em>. As they rampage the city, young Billy will do everything he can to stop them.
