A busy fashion icon<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Born in 1988 in New York, American rapper Rakim Mayers<\/strong>, aka A$AP Rocky<\/strong><\/a>, first took his stage name from the A$AP Mob<\/strong> collective (Always Strive And Prosper<\/em>). He rose to fame in 2011 with the mixtape Live.Love.A$AP<\/em>, confirmed his talent with Long.Live.A$AP<\/em> (2013) and At.Long.Last.A$AP<\/em> (2015), before releasing the acclaimed Testing <\/em>(2018) with Frank Ocean<\/strong><\/a> and Kodak Black<\/strong>.<\/p><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The track Highjack <\/em><\/strong>(2024), featuring folk singer Jessica Pratt<\/strong>, was a clear statement. A deliberately offbeat, almost anti-rap collaboration that pushed the artist toward a different idea of what was expected of him. That same year also saw the release of Tailor Swif<\/em> <\/strong>(2024), a wild video shot in Kyiv, Ukraine, shortly before the Russian invasion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But eight years without releasing any record is an eternity in the rap industry. Since his third solo album, A$AP Rocky<\/strong><\/a> has been highly-demanded on other projects. The artist has made a foray into cinema. He appeared in Spike Lee<\/strong><\/a>‘s feature Highest 2 Lowest<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (2025), in which he stars alongside Denzel Washington<\/a><\/strong>, and Mary Bronstein’s film If I Had Legs I’d Kick You<\/em><\/strong> with Rose Byrne<\/strong>. A$AP Rocky<\/strong> has become a true fashion icon, delivering stylish looks next to his wife, Rihanna.<\/p><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A new record by A$AP, eight years after Testing<\/em><\/h2><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

With his label AWGE<\/strong>, his mission as co-chair of the 2025 Met Gala<\/strong>, his role as creative director of Ray-Ban Studios<\/a><\/strong> and Chanel<\/a><\/strong> ambassador, the rapper attended all the major fashion events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regarding his musical career, the American artist pulled out of the Rock en Seine<\/a><\/strong> music festival… Already absent from Barcelona S\u00f3nar festival in 2019 – he was taken into custody in Stockholm on July 3rd after a street altercation – the New York rapper now seems even more elusive than his music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Long-awaited by his fans, the album Don\u2019t Be<\/em> Dumb<\/em><\/strong> finally dropped on January 16th, 2026, as the numbers \u201c01162026\u201d emblazoned on his sweatshirt during his performance at Tyler, The Creator<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s Camp Flog Gnaw last November. The date also coincides with National Nothing Day, a non-event created by columnist Harold Pullman Coffin in 1972, as a tongue-in-cheek response to the proliferation of commemorative days. An ironic wink to the art of the teaser.<\/p><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yet, teasing has been made since A$AP Rocky<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0unveiled the album cover on Instagram. Designed by filmmaker Tim Burton<\/strong><\/a>, the image looks more like a movie poster than a conventional cover. The caption even gives us a hint: \u201cMake this movie<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Doechii and Tyler, The Creator featured on Don’t Be Dumb<\/em><\/h2><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For several years now, the New York rapper has embraced a visual ambition he seems eager to infuse even more deeply into his music. According to early press reports, composer Danny Elfman <\/strong>– Tim Burton<\/strong>\u2019s long-time collaborator, known for scoring Edward Scissorhands<\/em><\/strong> and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory – <\/em>has worked on several tracks. This new record seems to be shaped as the soundtrack to a life rather than as a classic hip-hop album\u2026<\/p><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Don’t Be Dumb<\/strong><\/em> features prestigious artists, such as Brent Faiyaz<\/strong>, Doechii<\/strong>, Gorillaz<\/strong>, Jon Batiste<\/strong>, Jessica Pratt<\/strong>, Slay Squad, Thundercat<\/strong>, Tyler, The Creator<\/strong>, Westside Gunn, BossMan Dlow and will.i.am. Danny Elfman<\/strong> and Thundercat<\/strong> also appear on the album’s first single, Punk Rocky<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Punk Rocky<\/em>, released on January 5th, 2026, is indeed accompanied by a wild video starring actress Winona Ryder<\/strong>. It pays tribute to the underground culture of the 1990s. The track leans into indie rock and is reminiscent of the musical universe of Yves Tumor<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Don\u2019t Be Dumb<\/strong><\/em> remains a rap album, even though A$AP Rocky<\/strong> also plays with other genres. Some of his tracks are infused with electronic, trap, R’n’B, and even a few touches of jazz piano. Although the record is not groundbreaking, a few good surprises await listeners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the highlights is the sharp and punchy Stole Ya Flow<\/strong><\/em>, a diss track<\/strong> that clearly targets Drake<\/strong>. Rihanna is not featured on the album, however. Something that disappointed many fans of the artist couple – our editorial team included. Otherwise, the rapper still has compelling lyrics and flow, and continues to dig up a blend of rap, indie music, laid-back vibes, and experimentation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vinyl sales to fund a apartment building in Harlem<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

One of the standout elements is the rapper\u2019s inspiring initiative regarding the vinyl sales of his new album. A$AP Rocky<\/strong> decided that the proceeds would go toward paying the rent for the building in Harlem where he grew up and where his grandmother still lives today. He has teamed up with BILT, a company offering programs that make it easier for renters to become homeowners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFor me, it\u2019s always been about your community and neighborhood. Harlem made me who I am, from uptown to downtown, and that connection to place is everything. When BILT said they wanted to cover rent for everyone in the same building where I grew up, that hit different. That\u2019s not just business, that\u2019s understanding what community really means,<\/em>\u201d the rapper stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
