But this new version is quite different from the original\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Colman Domingo<\/strong>: I think what really interested the film\u2019s director <strong>Edgar Wright<\/strong> (<em>Scott Pilgrim<\/em>, <em>Shaun of the Dead<\/em>, <em>Last Night in Soho<\/em>) and screenwriter<strong> Michael Bacall<\/strong> was the idea of going back to the source material. I hope people won\u2019t see it as a reinterpretation of the 1980s film, but rather as a more faithful version of the novel. The wildest part is that the book is set in 2025. I think <a href=\"https:\/\/numero.com\/en\/culture-en\/movies\/on-netflix-5-disturbing-films-based-on-stephen-kings-novels-2\/\"><strong>Stephen King<\/strong><\/a> already had a dystopian vision of America in mind. In a way, he foresaw the crisis we\u2019re living through at the moment. It\u2019s a crisis we experience through the eyes of an ordinary man fighting to keep his humanity intact. In <strong><em>Running Man<\/em><\/strong>, the fight for survival becomes a form of entertainment. It all feels very close to our current reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong data-start=\"76\" data-end=\"216\">The film does immerse us in a dystopian America. Do you think this political context resonates with the country\u2019s current events?<\/strong><br><br>Yes, absolutely. Not just in America, but all over the world, because we know how much social media has amplified this crisis phenomenon. To me, it says a lot about our relationship to the concept of truth. Everyone is creating their own version of reality, especially with the rise of <strong>artificial intelligence<\/strong>. <em data-start=\"530\" data-end=\"543\">Running Man<\/em> tackles those themes, which makes it both entertaining and relevant. You can clearly see the link between our current situation and the paths ahead. How did you prepare for that role?<\/strong><br><br><strong>Bobby T<\/strong>, the character I play, is the most famous game show host in the world. To prepare for the role, I watched sensationalist TV hosts like <strong>Jerry Springer<\/strong> and <strong>Ricki Lake<\/strong>. I wanted to study those who seem to be at the heart of entertainment, who feed the beast without ever feeling complicit. You wonder how they manage to sleep at night after stoking so much violence\u2026 But playing the character helped me understand that they manage it because they see themselves as a mere reflection of society. They tell themselves, \u201c<em>Why not twist the knife, turn it into entertainment, and make a profit out of it!<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>In the Netflix series <em>The Madness<\/em>, released last year, you played another media figure. A journalist this time\u2026<\/strong><br><br>In <strong><em>The Madness<\/em><\/strong>, my character is Muncie Daniels, a journalist whose job was to understand. To understand what\u2019s going on in the world within the current political landscape. But the character of Bobby T in<strong> <em>Running Man<\/em><\/strong> is the complete opposite of that. He only exists on stage, permanently living in a world of spectacle and glitter. Muncie Daniels, by contrast, was a fairly ordinary man, well-off, someone who had achieved the American dream. Whereas Bobby T, the showman, is much more than that. He transcends the very idea of the American dream. A second Oscar nomination for the drama <em data-start=\"1002\" data-end=\"1013\">Sing Sing<\/em> and an appearance in Sabrina Carpenter\u2019s latest video, <em data-start=\"1071\" data-end=\"1078\">Tears<\/em>\u2026<\/strong><br><br>My principle has always been to do good work with people I like and who make me feel good. Now that I\u2019ve reached certain heights, I want to try something different. I want to have fun, and that\u2019s why I\u2019m drawn to projects like <em data-start=\"1316\" data-end=\"1329\">Running Man<\/em> and to opportunities like the one <a href=\"https:\/\/numero.com\/en\/culture-en\/music\/sexy-cover-controversy-what-to-expect-from-sabrina-carpenters-new-album\/\"><strong>Sabrina Carpenter<\/strong><\/a> offered me when she said, \u201c<em>I want to play with you<\/em>.\u201d I love the fact that people recognize me as a craftsman, an artist. But at the same time, I don\u2019t take myself too seriously. I can do drag just as easily as I can take on serious, in-depth work about the American prison system with <strong><em data-start=\"1658\" data-end=\"1669\">Sing Sing<\/em><\/strong>. As an artist, I want to keep evolving, challenging myself, and performing in different spaces. And I feel that, with everything I\u2019ve already achieved, I\u2019m ready to open a new chapter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong data-start=\"1867\" data-end=\"2042\">You also co-chaired the <a href=\"https:\/\/numero.com\/en\/fashion\/the-best-looks-from-the-2025-met-gala\/\">2025 Met Gala<\/a>, alongside Lewis Hamilton and Pharrell Williams. Can you tell us more about that experience and your relationship with fashion in general?<\/strong><br><br>I definitely wouldn\u2019t have bet on working in fashion, let alone co-chairing the <strong>Met Gala<\/strong>! [<em>Laughs<\/em>.] But I love telling stories through my body and my clothes. It all came together naturally, through conversations with my stylist. I didn\u2019t know it would turn me into a sort of fashion icon, but it seems to have worked out! At first, I didn\u2019t know there was a place for me in fashion. But now I realize I feel good in that space. Especially when I get lovely compliments from <a href=\"https:\/\/numero.com\/en\/art-design\/photography\/ellen-von-unwerth-tells-the-story-of-5-photographs-featuring-naomi-campbell-kate-moss-and-claudia-schiffer-2\/\"><strong>Naomi Campbell<\/strong><\/a> saying I was made for fashion, or from <a href=\"https:\/\/numero.com\/en\/fashion\/meeting-with-edward-enninful-the-star-stylist-turned-designer-for-moncler\/\"><strong>Edward Enninful<\/strong><\/a> calling me the king of fashion. Now I realize I can fill in some gaps and silences in the fashion world. A truly monumental season, a masterpiece in the realm of television. I think<strong> Sam Levinson<\/strong> (creator of <em>Euphoria, <\/em>ed.) is in an exceptional creative phase currently where he\u2019s truly freed himself from the constraints of the first two seasons. He\u2019s pushing himself, asking himself how he can reinvent the series in a creative way, and he\u2019s succeeding. The result, according to me, raises questions about faith. This third season reminds us that art is something much bigger than us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong data-start=\"746\" data-end=\"877\">The special episode in<em data-start=\"783\" data-end=\"793\"> <\/em>season 1, which earned you an Emmy Award in 2022, also tackled the notions of faith and belief.<\/strong><br><br>That\u2019s a theme Sam and I often talk about when we share our views on the world. These are questions that stir inside us, that intrigue us deeply. People often describe <strong><em data-start=\"1048\" data-end=\"1058\">Euphoria<\/em><\/strong> as a show about highschool kids, addicts, or people in crisis. But ultimately, the show is about belief. About people who feel lost in the world and are trying to believe in something. I think we all do that in our own way. Some turn to drugs, others to sex, to drama, to the internet\u2026 Everyone is just trying to hold onto something. We\u2019re all looking to believe in communities we can belong to, where we feel seen, loved, and heard. I\u2019ll be in <em data-start=\"341\" data-end=\"351\">True-ish<\/em> with <strong>Sandra H\u00fcller<\/strong> and in <em data-start=\"383\" data-end=\"401\">Strange Arrivals<\/em> with <strong>Demi Moore<\/strong>. She\u2019s going to play my wife, which is amazing! I also just wrapped the filming of <strong>Steven Spielberg<\/strong>\u2019s untitled movie, with <strong>Emily Blunt<\/strong>, <strong>Colin Firth<\/strong>, and <strong>Josh O\u2019Connor<\/strong>. I had a great time on that shoot. There\u2019s no better director than Steven Spielberg. He\u2019s become like a father figure to me in this industry. I genuinely believe we\u2019re cut from the same cloth. He\u2019s kind, funny, warm. But above all, he just wants to create. The cast and I were like a family!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong data-start=\"892\" data-end=\"1088\">Your roles often take you into very dark territory, from the film <em data-start=\"959\" data-end=\"965\">Zola<\/em> (2021) to the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic or <em data-start=\"1016\" data-end=\"1034\">The Color Purple<\/em>. What is your thought process when reading a script?<\/strong><br><br>When I read a script, I have to believe I can bring something unique to the character and the story. Because if it\u2019s something I\u2019ve done before, it\u2019s a no for me! I also believe that roles choose me. With <em data-start=\"1300\" data-end=\"1306\">Zola<\/em>, I don\u2019t think I\u2019d done anything before that would\u2019ve convinced director <strong>Janicza Bravo<\/strong> I could play one of the nastiest pimps I\u2019ve ever seen. But somehow, she knew I could do it, and I was curious about the way she perceived that character. People come to me when they\u2019re looking for something deeper, to add layers, to humanize their characters, even the villains. Was it important for you to step behind the camera to tell other types of stories?<\/strong><br><br>I\u2019ve always believed in that \u2014 directing productions. It\u2019s the next milestone in my growth as an artist. I\u2019ve already directed plays, helmed TV show episodes\u2026 But I wanted to direct films, and most importantly, I wanted to make the right ones. Again, I need to feel that I have something meaningful to add.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong data-start=\"597\" data-end=\"641\">What can you share about these projects?<\/strong><br><br>One is a biopic about singer <strong>Nat King Cole<\/strong>, and the other is <strong><em data-start=\"705\" data-end=\"718\">Scandalous!<\/em><\/strong>, a film about <strong>Sammy Davis Jr.<\/strong> and<strong>Kim Novak<\/strong>. Both stories take place in 1957. I don\u2019t know why, but 1957 is a very important year for me. A year I keep trying to unpack, to analyze from every angle. The cars, ideas, state of civil rights and women\u2019s rights&#8230; It\u2019s a subject I keep coming back to. And right now, I can say I\u2019m very excited about it. I\u2019ve moved <strong><em data-start=\"1078\" data-end=\"1091\">Scandalous!<\/em><\/strong> up in my schedule. It will star <a href=\"https:\/\/numero.com\/en\/culture-en\/movies\/sydney-sweeneys-exciting-new-projects-from-a-sports-biopic-to-a-gothic-thriller\/\"><strong>Sydney Sweeney<\/strong><\/a> and is currently in pre-production. Then, I\u2019ll shoot the <strong>Nat King Cole<\/strong> biopic later next year. It\u2019s important for me to keep evolving. But I also think it would be nice to take some time to really be at home in Los Angeles, where I could shoot and edit my projects\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Running Man <em>(2025)<\/em> by Edgar Wright, available in VOD on Apple TV+. <\/em><br><em>Dead Man&#8217;s Wire by Gus Van Sant, coming out in theatres on April 15th, 2026. <\/em><br><em>The first episode of
