The <strong>51st C\u00e9sar Awards<\/strong> took place on February 26th, 2026, at L\u2019Olympia in Paris, and were hosted by French actor <strong>Benjamin Lavernhe<\/strong>. Alongside him, the event\u2019s hosts included <strong>David Cronenberg<\/strong>, <strong>Isabelle Huppert<\/strong>, <strong>Golshifteh<\/strong> <strong>Farahani<\/strong>, <strong>Malik Frikah<\/strong>, <strong>Marina Hands<\/strong>,<strong> Pierre Lottin<\/strong>, <strong>Alice Diop<\/strong>, <strong>Souheila Yacoub<\/strong> and <strong>Karim Leklou<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A wild opening show by Benjamin Lavernhe at the 2026 C\u00e9sar Awards<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The star of <i><strong>The Marching Band<\/strong> <\/i>(2024),<strong><em> My Donkey, My Lover &amp; I&nbsp;<\/em><\/strong>(2020) and <strong><em>Abb\u00e9 Pierre \u2013 A Century of Devotion<\/em><\/strong> (2023) opted for an unconventional approach to hosting the <strong>C\u00e9sars<\/strong>. As member of the <strong>Com\u00e9die-Fran\u00e7aise<\/strong> and a multiple C\u00e9sar nominee, he went all in on humor and choreography.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The C\u00e9sar ceremony indeed opened with a wild performance by the host. In order to pay tribute to <a href=\"https:\/\/numero.com\/en\/culture-en\/movies\/the-1001-faces-of-jim-carrey-iconoclastic-actor-crowned-at-the-2026-cesar-awards\/\"><strong>Jim Carrey<\/strong><\/a>, who received an honorary C\u00e9sar that night, <strong>Benjamin Lavernhe<\/strong> slipped into the skin of the burlesque and cynical hero of <strong><em>The Mask<\/em><\/strong>. He spoke to&nbsp;Danish actor <strong>Claes Bang<\/strong>, nominated for Best Actor for <strong><em>The Great Arch<\/em><\/strong>, with irony. \u201c<em>Are you coming to take a title from us? (\u2026) Are we coming to take Greenland from you?,<\/em>\u201d he declared, alluding to the Arctic island\u2019s situation and the threats made by Donald Trump.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another jab? \u201c<em>I watched all your films. All 232 of them. I had a great time\u2026 though I did see a few real stinkers<\/em>,\u201d the actor quipped. Or again: \u201c<em>Case 137\u2026 Sorry, but what kind of dumb title is that? A clear reference to <strong>Donald Trump<\/strong>, which gave the evening a political edge. Then, she delivered an inspired speech, ironically mocking the mercantile practices that would kill cinema if taken to their logical extreme. \u201c<em>As of today, any director whose films draw fewer than 500,000 viewers will apologize and go back to business school. (\u2026) My colleagues have drawn my attention to a major issue: artists, who judge, criticize, doubt, whine\u2026 We\u2019re going to keep making art, but without artists<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She concluded her first speech of the evening on a more serious note. \u201c<em>French audiences go to see French films massively. We are the second most exported cinema in the world, after the American industry. Culture is often the first thing to be under attack, because it is a weapon against authoritarianism. The rising actress delivered a moving speech: \u201c<em>Since the very beginning of this adventure, I\u2019ve kept being surprised, and I feel like I\u2019m living a waking dream. So please, don\u2019t wake me up<\/em>.\u201d<br><br>As for the actor from <strong><em>Nino<\/em><\/strong>, he noted: \u201c<em>It\u2019s a huge honor to be among you in this room.
