Photo : Kei Okano.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Yu Nishimura, a painter marked by his homeland<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><p class=\"p1\">Landscapes, urban scenes, anonymous figures who look us straight in the eye or go about their day-to-day business \u2013 these peaceful moments characterize the work of <strong>Yu Nishimura<\/strong>, a native of Kanagawa in Japan, where he lives and works. Photo : Mark Blower.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The legacy of the Japanese nihonga movement<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><p class=\"p1\">It is no doubt this ability to create a body of work that is contemporary \u201c<em>in terms of its subjects, but is rooted in the history of Japanese styles, notably the nihonga movement<\/em>,\u201d which emerged in Kyoto during the last quarter of the 19th century and is based on the conventions, techniques and materials of \u201ctraditional\u201d Japanese painting, that recently earned him solo exhibitions at<strong> David Zwirner<\/strong>\u2019s in New York (2025), <strong>Sadie Coles HQ<\/strong> in London (2024), and the Parisian gallery <strong>Cr\u00e8vec\u0153ur<\/strong>, which had already exhibited the artist in 2020 and 2022. He is also a regular at international fairs such as <a href=\"https:\/\/numero.com\/en\/art-design\/paris-internationale-5-artists-spotted-at-the-contemporary-art-fair\/\">Paris Internationale<\/a> (2023) and Art Basel Hong Kong (2024).<\/p><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Yu Nishimura is represented by the <a href=\"https:\/\/galeriecrevecoeur.com\/\">Cr\u00e8vec\u0153ur<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.davidzwirner.com\/\">David Zwirner<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sadiecoles.com\/\">Sadie Coles HQ<\/a>\u00a0galleries.<\/em><br\/><em>Some of the artist&#8217;s artworks are currently exhibited on the Sadie Coles HQ gallery stand (Stand K20) at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.googleadservices.com\/pagead\/aclk?sa=L&amp;ai=DChcSEwi8xde92feNAxUNpYMHHTpMHF4YABABGgJlZg&amp;co=1&amp;gclid=CjwKCAjwgb_CBhBMEiwA0p3oOLDQgJzFE4IATZ5lvScWVV20RJB8s4rmg4bHZjw9hVKlW-nVLNATVxoCP6kQAvD_BwE&amp;ei=zflQaIamMfihkdUP_Yig-Qk&amp;ohost=www.google.com&amp;cid=CAESV-D253NbcXTWuon5xEYRRVJgCoUov0ENOcwIn5r4c_jCbrP5m7f07BXoSeouT2P9O7ieva1C933Qmy9RkIOHqbuo-_114b0Hz3BArFKVmtwMHEuPied2jw&amp;category=acrcp_v1_40&amp;sig=AOD64_0NSD3hYEIyeTdzfxeWFXAr_QC6eQ&amp;q&amp;sqi=2&amp;adurl&amp;ved=2ahUKEwjGwNK92feNAxX4UKQEHX0EKJ8Q0Qx6BAgREAE\">Art Basel<\/a>, from June 17th to 22nd, 2025, Messe Basel, Basel.
