More than that, he is becoming a key figure in Hollywood visual storytelling, combining chills, faith, and fatalism all at once.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Far from ghosts and curses, <\/span><strong><i>The Life of Chuck<\/i><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> explores grief, memory, and the meaning of existence. Told in reverse chronology and in three acts &#8211; the apocalypse, the dance scene, and\u00a0 childhood &#8211; the film draws a moving portrait of an ordinary man, Chuck Krantz, brilliantly played by <strong>Tom Hiddleston<\/strong>. Here, the fantastic is implicit rather than shown. Everything becomes a mental metaphor &#8211; could the end of the world and the collapse of reality be symptoms of Chuck\u2019s brain death?<\/span><\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=aAu4OB_UjA0\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=aAu4OB_UjA0<\/a><\/div>\r\n<figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Trailer of <em>The<\/em> <em>Life of Chuck<\/em> (2025).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mike Flanagan and his fascination with Stephen King<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gerald\u2019s Game<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (2017), a project once deemed \u201cinadaptable\u201d until <strong>Mike Flanagan<\/strong> revealed its sensory power, the director has maintained a special connection with <a href=\"https:\/\/numero.com\/en\/non-classifiee-2\/on-netflix-5-disturbing-films-based-on-stephen-kings-novels-2\/\">Stephen King<\/a>. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Doctor Sleep<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (2019) was a daring sequel to <\/span><strong><i>The Shining<\/i><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, balancing tribute to Kubrick with loyalty to the original novel.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With <em data-start=\"127\" data-end=\"146\">The Life of Chuck<\/em> and now <strong><em data-start=\"155\" data-end=\"163\">Carrie<\/em><\/strong>, one of Prime Video\u2019s flagship projects, he is establishing himself as one of the most perceptive interpreters of Stephen King\u2019s universe. He is able to draw out the psychological unease, family pathos, and latent terror.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The project <em data-start=\"398\" data-end=\"406\">Carrie<\/em>\u00a0is far from an opportunistic remake. Conceived as an ambitious mini-series, it will mark Mike Flanagan\u2019s first collaboration with Amazon Studios through his new label, Red Room Pictures. The creator intends to move away from <strong>Brian De Palma<\/strong>\u2019s model to refocus the story on generational trauma and the mechanics of humiliation. Loosely reimagining <strong>Shirley Jackson<\/strong>\u2019s novel, he created more than a horror series. He orchestrated a spectral family drama, in which each ghost symbolizes a pain, a memory, or a buried truth. The sixth episode of the show, shot in long takes, remains a high point of emotional tension.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This show laid the foundation for the so-called \u201c<strong>Flanaverse<\/strong>\u201d. That unofficial term refers to his interconnected works, all bound by a recurring cast including Carla Gugino, Henry Thomas, Kate Siegel\u2026 It was followed by <\/span><strong><i>The Haunting of Bly Manor <\/i><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(2020), <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Midnight Mass<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (2021), <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Midnight Club<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (2022), and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Fall of the House of Usher<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (2023). His camera glides down hallways like an invisible breath. Sets are filled with hidden figures (the famous \u201chidden ghosts\u201d), and editing follows the logic of memory rather than that of chronology. In <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The<\/span><\/i> <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Life of Chuck<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, this visual language becomes poetic even. Road signs and impromptu dances serve as emotional anchors in a dissolving world.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mike Flanagan isn\u2019t just a purveyor of fear. He narrates the unseen, what haunts the living: regret, loss, memory. He has never filmed monsters per se. He left Netflix and Intrepid Pictures to launch his own production company, Red Room Pictures. This shift toward independence stemmed from his desire for greater creative freedom. Prime Video thus became his new home, with several projects already in the making.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These include <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Carrie<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the brilliant horror drama mentioned earlier, as well as a trilogy of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Exorcist<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, co-produced with Blumhouse and scheduled for 2026. This total reboot promises a fresh start and returns to the metaphysical roots of William Friedkin\u2019s original film. Finally, Mike Flanagan is not against the return to the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Haunting<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> universe, if the conditions are right.
