On Tuesday, September 10, 2024, the Dutch designer was awarded the prestigious Karl Lagerfeld Prize at the 2024 LVMH Prize ceremony, presented to him by British actor Robert Pattinson.<\/p><br\/><p class=\"\" data-start=\"910\" data-end=\"1345\"><\/p><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This accolade crowns Lantink\u2019s visionary talent and adds to an already impressive list of achievements, including the special <strong>ANDAM<\/strong> Prize he won in 2023. <em>\u201cWinning this prize is really amazing because it will help me grow my brand. In the upcoming seasons, I want to focus on accessories. I\u2019ve always wanted to design bags, shoes, eyewear, and jewelry, but it hasn\u2019t been possible until now,\u201d<\/em> he explained in an interview with <em data-start=\"1336\" data-end=\"1344\">Num\u00e9ro<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><p class=\"\" data-start=\"1347\" data-end=\"1620\">Though his name has been everywhere in recent months, <strong>Duran Lantink<\/strong> first made a splash in 2018 with<a href=\"https:\/\/numero.com\/en\/non-classifiee\/janelle-monae-popstar-activist-for-liberty-and-emancipation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong> Janelle Mon\u00e1e<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s music video <em data-start=\"1470\" data-end=\"1476\">Pynk<\/em>. The clip went viral, largely thanks to a vagina-shaped pair of pants worn by the American singer and her dancers, designed by Lantink himself.<\/p><br\/><p class=\"\" data-start=\"1622\" data-end=\"2137\"><\/p><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><p class=\"\" data-start=\"1622\" data-end=\"2137\">While he denies having created the bold piece to provoke, he acknowledges that the garment reflects his vision of fashion as playful and politically engaged. <em>\u201cI don\u2019t want to be overly camp, but I love to play and flirt with that aesthetic. I grew up in an environment that fully embraced queer identity, and I think that\u2019s a core part of who I am. My goal is just to make exciting things that reflect my values. It wasn\u2019t until Paris Fashion Week in March 2023 that he was able to present his debut runway show, laying the foundation for a minimalist yet radical fashion rooted in upcycling.<\/p><br\/><p class=\"\" data-start=\"2497\" data-end=\"2997\"><\/p><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><p class=\"\" data-start=\"2497\" data-end=\"2997\">A practice he adopted in childhood, when he would create from clothes and fabrics found in his family\u2019s closets. <em>\u201cMy mom was very free-spirited, and I grew up surrounded by drag queens and people in designer clothes. I was exposed to creative fashion from a very young age, and that shaped who I am today,<\/em>\u201d he says.
