James Bond on the silver screen, a family matter<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

$1 billion. That\u2019s the astronomical sum that Amazon MGM Studios<\/strong> had to pay to acquire \u201ccreative control\u201d over the films based on the James Bond <\/em>novels. It was a major decision, since EON Productions had been the sole producer of the adventures of Agent 007 on the silver screen since the release of the first film of the saga.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In July 1961, producers Albert R. Broccoli<\/strong> and Harry Saltzman<\/strong> founded EON Productions with one goal in mind: adapting Ian Fleming\u2019s spy novels. The partners worked together for over 30 years before the death of Albert R. Broccoli, who eventually passed the torch to his daughter and son-in-law, Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson. For sixty years, the teams at EON Productions threw themselves body and soul into the James Bond<\/strong> <\/em>franchise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Marvel-style cinematic universe for James Bond<\/em>?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The former Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, which were co-producers of the films featuring Agent 007<\/strong>, have been bought out by Amazon, the business empire of tycoon Jeff Bezos<\/strong>, in 2021. According to the American media\u00a0Deadline<\/a><\/em>, tensions had arisen between Barbara Broccoli and Amazon MGM Studios <\/strong>regarding the future of the British spy. The two parties then reached an agreement and formed a new joint venture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amazon MGM would like to turn the\u00a0James Bond\u00a0<\/em>saga into \u201can extended cinematic universe, just like the epic universes of Star Wars, Spider-Man or Marvel<\/em>\u201d. Initially opposed to the idea, Barbara Broccoli <\/strong>and Michael Wilson<\/strong> finally gave \u201ccreative control\u201d to Amazon MGM after a long power struggle with the production studios. Producers Amy Pascal<\/strong> (Spider-Man<\/em>, Little Women<\/em>) and David Heyman<\/strong> (Harry Potter<\/em>, Barbie<\/em>) have recently been confirmed as producers of this new instalment, according to Deadline<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
