Moving, bold stories<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In 13 years, the American production and distribution studio A24<\/strong> (Midsommar<\/em>, Pearl<\/em>, Euphoria<\/em>, Moonlight<\/em>) founded by Daniel Katz, John Hodges and David Fenkel has shaken up the landscape of Hollywood giants. One of its strengths? Films that address a wide range of poignant themes \u2014 family conflicts, coming-of-age, grief, immigration, depression… While some studios are still reluctant to bring certain stories to the big screen, A24 has made a daring bet on different types of projects since its launch in 2012.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And the risk-taking is paying off. A24 films often come with prestigious awards at award ceremonies. Indeed, the studio has been carving out a place for itself at the Oscars<\/strong> and Emmys Awards<\/a><\/strong> for several years. He has allowed Brendan Fraser<\/a><\/strong>, Brie Larson<\/a><\/strong>, Mahershala Ali<\/a><\/strong> and Ke Huy Quan<\/strong> to win the precious golden statuette.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A strong presence at the Cannes Film Festival<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Always ahead of the curve, A24<\/strong> made a bold statement at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival<\/a><\/strong>, reaffirming its status as a daring and visionary studio. This year, it showcased three highly anticipated feature films: Highest 2 Lowest<\/em><\/a><\/strong> by Spike Lee<\/strong><\/a>, starring an outstanding cast including Denzel Washington<\/strong><\/a>, A$AP Rocky<\/strong><\/a>, and Jeffrey Wright<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n

A24<\/strong> also unveiled Eddington<\/em><\/strong>, the latest creation from horror master Ari Aster<\/strong><\/a>, starring Joaquin Phoenix<\/strong><\/a>, Emma Stone<\/strong><\/a>, and Pedro Pascal<\/a><\/strong>. Finally, the American studio presented Pillion<\/em><\/strong>, a romantic drama by Harry Lighton<\/strong> starring Alexander Skarsg\u00e5rd<\/strong><\/a>, alongside Harry Melling<\/strong>.<\/p><\/p>\n\n\n

A prestigious selection that reflects A24\u2019s ability to bring forth distinctive projects, powered by stellar casts. At the 2025 Venice Film Festival<\/strong>, audiences were also treated to another eagerly-awaited feature, The Smashing Machine<\/strong><\/em>, starring Dwayne Johnson<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A24, an inclusive studio <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Another strong point of A24 <\/strong>? The studio shows an inclusiveness that is still too rare in Hollywood. Relentless<\/strong><\/em>, Past Lives<\/strong><\/em>, and other projects have been led by Asian filmmakers who stage narratives based on their own life experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The film Moonlight<\/a><\/strong> <\/em>(2016), a coming-of-age film about a young black gay man, was a turning point in the journey of A24. The feature film is almost entirely composed of actors of color, including its director Barry Jenkins<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Issues of ethnicity and sexuality are not the studio’s only priorities, as several female heroines and female directors from diverse cultures are also at the center of the studio’s projects (Lady Bird<\/a><\/strong><\/em>, Love Lies Bleeding<\/em>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A-list actors starring in A24 movies<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Robert Pattinson<\/a><\/strong>, Anya Taylor-Joy<\/a><\/strong>, Michelle Yeoh<\/a><\/strong>, Kirsten Dunst<\/a><\/strong>… Big names in cinema have played in A24<\/strong> productions. It was an opportunity for some actors to try their hand at new genres, such as Awkwafina<\/strong> in The Farewell<\/em><\/strong><\/em>, who swapped comedy for a more serious register. For others, it’s about getting behind the camera, like Jonah Hill<\/a><\/strong> with his film90s<\/em> (2019) and Bo Burnham<\/strong> with Last Year<\/em> (2018).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The presence of great directors (Sofia Coppola<\/a><\/strong>, Denis Villeneuve<\/a><\/strong>, Sean Baker<\/a><\/strong>, Greta Gerwig<\/a><\/strong>) in the credits is also one of the major assets of A24. By offering filmmakers greater creative freedom, A24’s projects enjoy a strong visual identity in which the filmmaker’s vision flourishes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
