Num\u00e9ro: When did you decide to create the Pamela Anderson Foundation?<\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Pamela Anderson:<\/b> I started preparing my foundation over ten years ago, but it\u2019s become very active in the last two years, as I\u2019ve begun to devote more time to what\u2019s important for the planet, for vulnerable people and for animals. I\u2019m a great connector and producer, and I seem to fall into the right hands always. Even if I\u2019m a little bizarre. [Laughs.] I\u2019m not afraid to take this into zones where no one has gone before. The aim is to support activists, people who have a cause. There\u2019s also a tenure programme, which is artist driven. As for me, I\u2019m travelling the world on my own dime, speaking to people who I know make a difference and who are able to make big, real, impactful choices. I won\u2019t just sit around waiting for others to act. <\/p>\r\n\r\n

 <\/p>\r\n\r\n

What exactly are the foundation\u2019s goals, and how do you intend to go about achieving them?<\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

My foundation is evolving, and I\u2019m evolving as an activist. I have intelligent, educated friends. I learn every day. My priority with the foundation is to get resources out to the people who are doing the hard work. The front lines. I recently became chair of the board of directors of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. It\u2019s something I take extremely seriously. I think the Sea Shepherds are one of our saving graces. And I really encourage everyone to get on board. <\/p>\r\n\r\n

 <\/p>\r\n\r\n

Why did you choose Cannes to launch your foundation last year?<\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

It\u2019s one of my favourite places, and I knew we would get a lot of worldwide attention there. I had offers to make appearances, since I\u2019m invited every year to support the films of people I know. I just felt it was the moment to kick it into high gear. I\u2019ve been an activist in one form or another my entire life. It\u2019s in me \u2013 that empathy. I started to worry about desensitization. Artists are the freedom fighters of the world, so I knew there would be support and camaraderie in Cannes.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Your speech at Cannes last year was very moving, as was the video you afterwards made for the charity Chideo, in which you talked about the same themes. Why did you decide to speak out about the sexual abuse you\u2019d faced? And how did it influence your personal commitment to human, animal and environmental rights? <\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

I think anyone who has experienced trauma has an affinity with social justice. As children we dont understand. But now I do. It made me stronger, it gave me my secret language with animals. It shaped me, my sensuality, my sensitivity. Me as a parent, a lover, a friend. I was raised to tell the truth. Keeping secrets is not essentially lying, but it was such a freedom to let that out of me \u2013 the Pandora\u2019s box flew wide open. My life changed. People came and people went. It was awesome to experience the support, and it helped me get my footing a bit. I\u2019m like a kite in the wind, I get lost sometimes. I think it had a lot to do with my secret life. Acknowledging that I had one. <\/p>\r\n\r\n

 <\/p>\r\n\r\n

At a recent Parley for the Oceans event in Paris, Vivienne Westwood gave a speech in which she paid tribute to your actions. How did you meet and become friends?<\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Vivienne and I met at a Free Leonard Peltier event. We both use our platforms to share our opinions about climate change and the world. She\u2019s a huge force in my life. She inspires me every day, she\u2019s so highly regarded. I feel lucky to know her. I get to sneak in the back door with fewer expectations. But I love it when bright, valuable people like her see me for my work and for who I am, putting aside the preconceptions and strange ideas that people sometimes have about me.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

 <\/p>\r\n\r\n

Captain Paul Watson of the Sea Shepherds was also present.<\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Paul Watson is one of the world\u2019s greatest humans, and I\u2019ve been
\r\na long-time supporter of his. We speak regularly. His life is a testament.  His ways are constructive, intelligent and effective. The board of the Sea Shepherds consists of people who make decisions as a group for the organization. It\u2019s diverse, and the goal is complex. There is so much to do \u2013 we\u2019ll never stop. We will be relentless. And we need support.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

 <\/p>\r\n\r\n

You\u2019re known for writing letters to politicians \u2013 Vladimir Putin, Barack Obama, the Danish Prime Minister and so on. What kind of reaction do you get?<\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

I write every day. I write letters consistently to world leaders, activists, friends, lovers. People I admire. Letters are a lost art. It\u2019s important to continue the fight on all levels. This is an effective way for me. And I can tell you that everyone always responds. <\/p>\r\n\r\n

 <\/p>\r\n\r\n

You also recently went to Russia to meet their minister for natural resources.<\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

I\u2019m just back from the Kremlin. Russia is my friend. I\u2019ve had great success there. We\u2019re working together on legislation to protect endangered species. Not only in Russia, but from other parts of the world too. Specifically to ban importation of any endangered species. They are doers, and I respect that. <\/p>\r\n\r\n

 <\/p>\r\n\r\n

You wrote on the foundation\u2019s website that it \u201cmust be outspoken and brave … in a provocative way.\u201d What kind of provocation are we talking about here?<\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

I believe that being provocative is the key to my success in every aspect of my life. I\u2019m a pusher, a squeezer, I\u2019m relentless with love, with science, with all that I am and all those I know. Yet I\u2019m not ambitious or calculating. I listen \u2013 I take it all in. I resonate with almost everything. It\u2019s a love affair with the planet and all its beings. Women are good at this. I was raised by amazing women. They taught me to use all I am to get the results I desire, but in a compassionate way that\u2019s both humble and excitingly surprising. <\/p>\r\n\r\n

 <\/p>\r\n\r\n

I believe that you\u2019ve also founded your own environmentally friendly companies.<\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

I have a few. There\u2019s pammieslife.com, which makes vegan footwear and other products out of recycled electronics and other materials: snow to surf, boots, beanies, blankets. It\u2019s a sensual, cozy lifestyle brand. I have another vegan shoe company I\u2019m involved with, in collaboration with Am\u00e9lie Pichard. I also have a beauty-water company I\u2019m part of. We are changing the recyclable bottles to a better, more earth-friendly biodegradable package. It\u2019s evolving as I get involved.
\r\nI have integrity as a brand. I\u2019ve self funded both shoe companies. I can\u2019t wait for others to catch up. Luckily, I think the time is now. We are getting an incredible response \u2013 vegan luxury brands!<\/p>\r\n\r\n

 <\/p>\r\n\r\n

What exactly does \u201cvegan\u201d imply for a shoe?<\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Vegan means absolutely no animal products \u2013 no animal skins, parts, or anything that might harm animals. It\u2019s the only choice now. There\u2019s no need for animals to be slaughtered for fashion or for food, or to be used for entertainment. It\u2019s time to let those dark ages go. Never go to a sea aquarium, don\u2019t go to zoos, stop eating meat, chicken, fish
\r\nor any dairy products \u2013 you can save the world this way!<\/p>\r\n\r\n

 <\/p>\r\n\r\n

How would you describe your collection with Am\u00e9lie Pichard?<\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The Am\u00e9lie collection is very 90s inspired. But also inspired by our mutual lifestyles \u2013 beach resorts, boats, parties \u2013 a sexy compassionate artistic life. Am\u00e9lie has used me as her muse in other collections, but this time it was a collaboration. It was very exciting for me. Every \u201ccelebrity\u201d seems to have a clothing line, it\u2019s kind of goofy, but I hope this isn\u2019t comparable. I funded this so that people can have more non-animal pieces in their wardrobe. I also believe in supporting artists like Am\u00e9lie, so this project has many benefits. <\/p>\r\n\r\n

 <\/p>\r\n\r\n

Your two sons are also activists I believe.<\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Both my boys have been very active their entire lives. They\u2019ve given clean-water filters on surf trips with the charity Waves for Water. They\u2019ve been to the Faroe Islands to raise awareness of the horrible slaughter of innocent pilot-whale families as a blood sport. I also have an adopted third son who is always with us. I\u2019m so proud of him. He\u2019s off on a mission to protect dolphins with one of the Sea Shepherd boats right now, as a volunteer. Both my boys have done internships in fashion and music. They\u2019ve volunteered at wildlife centers with me cleaning cages, and feeding squirrels and hawks. It\u2019s in them. And having infuences like Vivienne and my wild artist friends \u2013 David Lachapelle, Christian Rosa, Sam Simon \u2013 has given them a colourful taste of life. They\u2019re creative academics, smart artists. I\u2019m excited to see where life takes them. <\/p>\r\n\r\n

 <\/p>\r\n\r\n

What were your parents like? <\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

My dad was a \u201cbad boy,\u201d my mom was bouncy blonde full of life, quick- witted and sarcastic. We had a joyful life. They were 18 and 19 when they had me, and are still together, more in love than ever. They\u2019re
\r\nvoracious readers, but simple people. <\/p>\r\n\r\n

 <\/p>\r\n\r\n

What influence would you say they had on you?<\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Along with my grandparents, they taught me to be a good person, to protect the earth and have fun doing it. And that\u2019s just what I am doing!<\/p>\r\n\r\n

 <\/p>\r\n\r\n

Where did your love for animals come from?<\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

I\u2019ve protected animals since I was very young. My father was a hunter, and I made him stop. I realized early on that information and words are very powerful. If it comes from your heart, it\u2019s the most powerful, and that\u2019s how you can make the most change. <\/p>\r\n\r\n

 <\/p>\r\n\r\n

Do you have animals at home?<\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

I have two dogs right now. But that changes. We foster animals too. <\/p>\r\n\r\n

 <\/p>\r\n\r\n

Your private life has been constantly exposed in the tabloids, but I don\u2019t think you could say we know the \u201ctrue\u201d Pamela Anderson. Are you a romantic, for instance?<\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

I\u2019m always in love, I\u2019m always broken hearted. I don\u2019t feel like a victim. Searching is the fun part \u2013 the dance, the mystery. <\/p>\r\n\r\n

 <\/p>\r\n\r\n

How would you define love?<\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

For me love means loving without attachment \u2013 supporting each other\u2019s dreams, selflessly, without ego. It\u2019s difficult, it\u2019s painful at times and it drives us mad. But that\u2019s the blessing of being human. We don\u2019t own anyone. I\u2019m a wildflower, everyone knows that. I\u2019m hard to tame. But I\u2019m loyal and old-fashioned too. <\/p>\r\n\r\n

Is there a love of your life?<\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

I\u2019m not sure there\u2019s a man who embodies that role for me yet. But my boys are my loves. My family too, and my dogs<\/p>\r\n\r\n

What do you seek in a relationship? Are you still attracted by bad guys?<\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Everyone is good and bad. The bad is usually a shield for insecurity. Once there\u2019s safety, the bad melts away. Then you just have to hope it\u2019s still interesting. Love is not skin deep. <\/p>\r\n\r\n

 <\/p>\r\n\r\n

What would you say was the most romantic moment of your life?<\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

My life is filled with romance. I romance myself. I love flowers and I don\u2019t wait for others to shower me with affection. It\u2019s okay to be alone. I write very romantic tales. I fantasize. I wonder who can handle me, then someone appears and says, \u201cI can!\u201d Even if it\u2019s in a dream!<\/p>\r\n\r\n

 <\/p>\r\n\r\n

Right now you\u2019re on the cover of the very last nude issue of Playboy<\/i> [the January\/February 2016 issue]. You and Playboy<\/i> go back a long way. How important would you say Hugh Hefner and his magazine have been in your life? <\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Mr. Hefner has been everything to me \u2013 I\u2019m part of the Playboy<\/i> DNA. This is my 15th American cover, and I\u2019ve done hundreds worldwide. My very first cover was 26 years ago. It\u2019s really hard to believe that so much time has passed.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

 <\/p>\r\n\r\n

And what about Baywatch<\/i>, the series that made you a household star? What are your memories 20 years on?<\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Baywatch<\/i> was my favourite job ever! Being on the beach every day with my dog, enjoying the sand and the ocean. I would have been there anyway. So to get paid too? I couldn\u2019t believe my luck!<\/p>\r\n\r\n

What happened to your famous red Baywatch<\/i> bathing suit? Did you really sell it at auction to raise money for your foundation? <\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n

I\u2019m selling everything for my foundation! I don\u2019t need a storage unit of things I\u2019ll hardly wear or use. Time is of the essence. There are too many important organizations to support now. I think everyone should do it: eBay has a way for you to sell things and give to charity. And it\u2019s recycling. I\u2019m not a big consumer \u2013 I have too much already.<\/p>\r\n\r\n
